I like most of it. It's a pretty drastic change of direction for them. Insomnia is my favorite track on that one.

I like Risk...here's my take: I wasn't big on it when it came out. It sounded pretty standard, and not like "the world's state of the art speed metal band." However, I always appreciate when bands stretch out, especially when they can come back to "their sound" as Megadeth did on the spectacular The World Needs A Hero . I really commend Megadeth for doing what the album title says, and that is take a Risk. I really hate AC/DC with a passion, because they never branch out. Where is AC/DC's Risk? Where is their concept album? Enough about them, Megadeth is one of my all-time favorite bands. I say that even after getting into an argument with Dave Mustaine himself. Do I consider Risk one of their best albums? No, but I think it is good music. I actually like it more than Youthanasia, which was Dave's first attempt at writing music with the intent of radio play and appealing to a mass audience. If Megadeth had not returned to classic form on their final album I probably wouldn't like Risk as much...I have similar feelings toward the Blaze Bayley era of Iron Maiden. I sort of lost touch with them during that time, but now I really love that music. The fact they've come back full circle helps me appreciate the more obscure stuff. It's the same way I feel about KISS with the Unmasked and Elder albums, with the stellar follow-ups Creatures of the Night and Lick It Up.

Interesting, I love AC/DC for the same reason. They do what they do best. Play straight ahead, no-frills Rock-n-Roll. You always know what to expect from this. Here's hoping they never "branch" out. What do you want from them, disco? It kills me when some bands and artists are successful and then they feel the need to "grow", whatever that means. Whatever turns you on I guess.

As far as Risk goes, Breadline's a really good tune, so is Prince of Darkness, some good riffs there. I really don't think the CD was as huge a departure as some thought, they just toned down and slowed down the guitar solo's a bit. I like the CD, I just think there are 5 or 6 better Megadeth CD's, relatively speaking. Here's hoping we hear some new stuff one of these days.

Well, give us the details! </font>[/QUOTE]I've seen Megadeth a handful of times through the years, and told Dave seeing them in 1993 was the biggest letdown and rip-off of a concert I've ever been to. This was on the Countdown tour, at the height of their popularity. What we got was a show that lasted only about 40 minutes, and Dave only sung maybe half of the lyrics to the songs. He seemed to spend more time chatting between the songs...not really talking about anything specifically. Well anyway, the whole band bailed as if on cue right in the middle of a song and left. They never came back on. After about 10 minutes one of the promoters got the mic and said the front barrier broke and didn't supply the protection to the band. I was exactly right in front and this never happened!!! I told Megadave a couple years ago this was all bullshit. The show was the 2nd to last on the tour, at least from what was printed on the shirts, and I think they just mailed it in that night. Dave still was disputing this and said they had a bunch of the tour left; not true in North America. We continued with this and he said if it was such a big deal he'd give my "measly" little 20 bucks back, which I declined.

What finally did surface years later after this concert is that Dave OD'd on a painkiller that night and spent the next 10 days in ICU. So part of the reason he was pissed at me is because I included the whole band as being part of this terrible fiasco. He admitted it was just his little episode. The part about the stage barrier is still BS. He still claims that to be the reason for the show to end early. Whatever...all I know is that for years a bunch of us had bitched about how bad the show was without ever hearing the truth of it.

What is classic now is that this concert is discussed in the Megadeth: Behind The Music DVD!!

Yeah, I remember that from the BTM deal. It was right before he went into rehab, right? Guess you could chalk that one up to drugs so I wouldn't be too hard on him, seems like he cleaned up his act. I was always impressed with the shows I saw.

How is it that you talk with him so much, e-mail, or do you run into him? I know he lives in Phoenix and I've heard that people have seen him occasionally with his family on Coronado Island here in San Diego.
