I think you're TOTALLY wrong, but I would like to hear your reasons why.

They're my second fav. band after VH (Probably be my first if this new thing with Dave don't work out.)

Explain why they "reek of suckiness".

I just don't like their music. He butchered "Stairway to Heaven" and I just don't like any of their songs.

They're okay, I like a lot of their stuff (not HARDCORE or anything).

My experience growing up, though, has been that only druggies and preppies like them though. Based on where I went to high school... I guess that makes me a preppie.

    Unchained Wolfie,
I think you're referring to the 3 1/2 minute "joke" version of Stairway. They usually play their cover of 'All Along the Watchtower' (Which sounds neither like Dylan's or Hendrix's), and since they have the same chord's Dave just threw the lyrics in. I hope you've listened to more than just that song, since it's not at all a representation of the band.

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds do an awesome cover of 'Tangerine' if you want to hear a Zeppelin cover done right.

If you want any song recommendations you've come to the right guy!

I've heard a few of their songs and I don't like them, but I am not closed minded so tell me your favorite DMB song, I will download it and I will tell you what I think. Sound fair?

Well, DMB is one hell of a band. They are my second favorite band next to Van Halen. I've seen them live twice. Once before they broke, once after. Here's the main reason I like this band.

Being a drummer, I tend to listen to great drummers. Carter Beuford of DMB is one of the greatest drummers to come out of the 90's. If your not a drummer, you probably won't appreciate his talent. Listen to songs like "Drive in, drive out", "Tripping Billies live", hell, listen to any song by them to get an idea of how truly talented Carter is. Try playing air drums and get ready to lose your mind. I think guitarists might even appreciate Dave Matthews playing. The guys got some funky chords going there.

I do realize that DMB and VH are 2 totally different bands with 2 totally different stlyes. I just choose not to limit my listening to only hard rock. I just appreciate great musicians, and the Dave Matthews Band happenes to be full of them. I know I'll get flamed for this, but I figured there would be a few open minded people out there that want to have an intelligent exchange of opinions. Not just "They suck!". Tell me why they suck. I'll tell you why I think they don't. And then give me a big "FUCK YOU TOP!! hehehe

If you want to hear a Zeppelin cover done RIGHT,check out Van Rothin's versions of "The Rover" and "Hots on for no one!!!!!!" Or Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes live at the Greek!!!!!!

I do like DMB's version of "Watermelon Man." Too cool.

But I tend to agree with Blueeyedmurder.

Lots of pretty lil' girls(pronounced GOLLS) at DMB's concertos, though!

    can't believe I quoted a Gary face!

Well I just don't think DMB is that innovative.

I have an open mind. I like lots of bands, but DMB is not one of them. The guy plays an electric violin. I mean there is no way I am going to convince you they suck, and you aren't going to convince me they don't suck. You want a reason why I think they suck? I just don't like their music. I may think they suck for the same reasons you think they are great. The point is neither of us is gonna change the other person's mind.

So In conclusion Dave Mathews sucks in my opinion, and maybe in yours, but maybe not.

    Unchained Wolfie,
There is no way that I can just have one favorite DMB song. Do you really not like them because Boyd plays a violin? He can make that thing rock more than 90% of guitarists. If you need an example check out:

Live at Red Rocks: Lie in our Graves
Live at Red Rocks: Dancing Nancies
    Live at Red Rocks: Warehouse
Live at Red Rocks: All Along the Watchtower

    Unchained Wolfie,
One more thing, this is all about debate. If you don't like DMB, that's fine, they're more successful than you or I will ever be, you aren't going to hurt my feelings. Try to make a good arguement that we can debate. Just saying that they suck is a cop-out and it shows a total lack of commitment to your opinion. If you can get me to realize that they do indeed "suck", all the better, maybe I won't look like such a fool. But if I can get you to like any of their songs, I guarantee you're going to be hooked.

About them not being innovative, I agree with you to an extent, but you have to look at the big picture. First you have to tell me what kind of music they play and then I'll be able to tell you if they are innovative or not.

I wouldn't exactly say that Dave Matthews SUCKS compared to all the other crap (boybands/Britney/LimpDikzit types) clogging the radio at the moment, but I would say they are seriously lacking in originality.

The guy's voice is a blend of Eddie Vedder and Michael Stipe. The whole "Jam/improvising" thing is cool, but the Dead did that 30 years ago, and Phish has been doing it for a while.

And "Live at Red Rocks"?? Uhhh... I think we all know who did that first. Is Dave Matthews going to have a white flag on stage next?

    FORD,
Fair enough about his voice, although one doesn't really have control over how their voice sounds, just what notes they can hit and what not. I always thought that he sounded more like Sting after a couple of six packs. I can't get the Vedder comparison at all.

As for lacking in originality, name me all of the other bands whose line-ups are acoustic guitar, electric bass, drums, sax and violin. Whose songs do they sound the most like? I'm curious, because they sound nothing like any of their influences, but if you've got any more insight, then please let me know.

I finally get to defend somebody other than Gary!
