Whats the most over the top live performance have some of you seen in concert? For me quite a few come to mind, in 84 Roth stopped the show in the middle of Panama cause someone threw a firecracker on stage. Roth reprimanded the asshole verbally and then invited up on stage to go a few rounds, calls him a motherfucker then Eddie and the band picked up right where they left off. In 83 at a Judas Priest show, during Hell Bent For Leather, Halford rides out on a brand new Harley Davidson, sets the kickstand, dismounts, then shoves it over on its side and begins to beat the shit out of it with a leather whip. Now thats over the top! How bout it, can ya top that?

Pat Travers in 1981. I've never seen a show that good featuring a guitar player, a bass player and a drummer. Pat was all over the place too.

KISS in 1982, one of their last shows in make-up. Their album-"Creatures of the Night" was tanking and Motley Crue had as many fans at the San Francisco Civic that night. They played better that night than any of the other six time I've seen them and more importantly, they played with more heart and intensity than any other band I've seen....which tells you how great Pat was.

For me it was VH in Oakland 1980 . It was only my second concert and I couldn`t believe there was guy onstage swearing , drinking JD , lighting up a joint . The band was had so much energy and were basically having a party onstage . The 81 & 82 tours were awsome too!

Since I've never seen Van Halen, I would have to say Flickerstick last year. They recorded their show at Deep Ellum and it was phenomenal. I don't believe I've seen a better live show.

another one that comes to mind would be Pink Floyd in 94 on the Division Bell tour. Unbelievable effects(sound and visual). Both shows were stadiums and the sound system was spread throughout. I remember sitting up in the stands stage right, and all of the sudden I hear a helicopter flying overhead, every body looked up but there was nothing there, it was the sound system effects. Birds chirping, sirens, flying pigs, you name it it was there.

Last but not least, Plant and Page on the Walking into Clarksdale Tour. I didn't care to much for the album but the show was ass kickin. The Coliseum was sold out and the crowd exploded when Plant and Page finally strolled out. They played a shitload of the classics. Most wired up audience I have ever been a part of. It wasn't Zeppelin but the next best thing!

Iron Maiden in 86 was very impressive.. so many explosions, fire, Eddies..
at one stage, a giant eddie head was inflated under the drumkit.
I also liked Motley Crue in (I think)89, especially when the drumkit moved over the audience, and started rotating!

U2 - "ZOO-TV Outside Broadcast" - a multi-media extravaganza! Big TVs controlled by Bono's big remote, Trabant headlights for stage lights, "Mirrorball Man", all with an awesome soundtrack.

U2 - POPMART - not quite as good as ZOO-TV, but any concert where the band emerges for their encore from a giant disco-ball lemon has gotta be up there somewhere!

Yup, probably the best concert I've ever been to. Gilmour was on fire and like you said the sound was perfect.

Funny thing was my dad was working at the hotel they stayed at. After the fact my dad figured out the David Gilmour I was ranting about was the same one staying at his hotel. He said he could have arranged a meeting had he known

If it's just concert's that we have actually attended then it would have to be Pink Floyd in '94 for me as well. 2 Giant Pigs 30 feet high on either side of the stage, and a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) Disco Ball directly center of the stadium, it worked perfectly as well, good effect!

Other then that, didn't ZZ Top do a tour with a giant stage in the shape of Texas and cattle grazing near by? Something to that effect...
