I recentley discovered Gary's music and must say that I am kinda impressed with his playing. Was just wondering if you guys had ever heard of him and what your input was.

p.s. His website says he is slated to play on some sort of VH tribute album...
WHOAOH! Hey you! Who said that? Baby how you been?

Hoey does rip. Check out the "Endless Summer II" soundtrack. Very cool. Another guitarist to check out is Blues Saraceno. Especially his "Hair Pick" CD. The song "Stinky Kitty" is a smoker.

He did a cover of "Hocus Pocus" by Focus about ten years ago that got quite a bit of airplay.

He also does covers of "Linus and Lucy" and "Low Rider" that are pretty good. Both are on the "Endless Summer II" soundtrack.

Endless Summer II's one of my favorite CDs period--I actually like the acoustic version of Drive better!! Bug Alley's pretty good too.

I saw the Hocus Pocus video, but when I saw him open for Satriani on New Year's 93/94, I was absolutely blown away!!

He's got 3 Christmas albums under his belt, too!

The news about the song he's planning to cover as a tribute to VH has been there awhile on the site.

Hoey's a killer player and a cool guy. I've got some videos from some clinics he did in Florida that show what a versatile player the dude really is. His "Ho Ho Hoey" Christmas records are must haves for any rock 'n' roll Christmas party!

And props to Harris for mentioning Andy Timmons, IMHO the best and most diverse guitarist around these days. Chops, taste, feel, groove for days and actual songs, this cat has it all!

Check him out, you will be amazed...

Thanks SBS. Timmons is a fantastic guitarist. I caught him at a guitar clinic in Clearwater, Fl. years ago and he completely floored me. Luckily I had a camcorder and got his performance on tape. I watch it all the time. He can go toe to toe with the best of them, plus he has a great sense of melody. Which is something the best shredders out there tend to lack. Check out "Ear Exstacy" his first CD. Especially the tracks "Carpe Diem" and "Busta Soda".
And speaking of "Hocus Pocus", Hoey does a good cover but you can't top the original Focus version (with the yodel included), plus check out the Focus tune "Sylvia". Another good melodic guitar insturmental.

I agree and have converted some friends into Hoey fans by bringing his music around with me on the holidays.
