What do you guys think about George ???
I think he is awesome !
EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. If there’s something I can’t deal with, I can just spend hours playing. It’s a God-given gift – I certainly don’t know where the ideas come from. They’re obviously given to you, and you have to keep your fingers moving and your mind quiet. I try my best to not think about thinking, so I can just let it flow. Because when I start thinking, forget it. <br />So....why he isn't playing guitar ? ? ?

He is a cool player but I always though his guitar was too low in the mix or somthing, most likely the work of one of his band mates *cough*DonDokken*cough* having a huge ego.

I really like Dokken, so of course I like George Lynch. Mr. Scary is a great instrumental. I also really like his playing on The Kiss Of Death.

George Lynch and Warren DeMartini are two of my favorites from the 80s. I would love to hear those guys jam.

I like George's playing, but he's completely arrogant in person. I met him at guitar-store when he was in town with Dokken (opening for Bon Jovi during Dokken's "reunion" tour) and he was nothing but a big cry-baby! All he did was cry about how short of an opening-stint Bon Jovi were giving them (Bon Jovi are usually very gracious to their opening acts) and even how lousy their touring-conditions were and how they can't sell records anymore. Maybe he was tired of taking the $$$ for playing with Dokken at that point and was on the verge of his decision to leave them again. Who knows? Still, he could've kept his mouth shut in front of the fans.

Great post.

Glad to see you can add so much to the discussion.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Two great guitarist in two mediocre bands IMO . Well let me put it another way, usually half there albums(Dokken,Ratt)had some great ballsy hard rock and cool ballads and the rest would be filler

What is this Don Dokken "incident" I hear people talking about all of the time? Does it have anything to do with Lynch leaving the band? I haven't really followed Dokken, only heard some of the records.

I read a story awhile back about George and Don having one of their usual blowups while they were rehearsing and supposedly Don threw a drink which got into the electronics of the amp that George was using I`d be a little pissed

That's really odd, because I've met George on three separate occaisions, including the "Dysfunctional" tour, and each time, I've found him to be an extremely down-to-earth and decidedly non-arrogant person.

In fact, when I met him after a show on the "Dysfunctional" tour, all he could talk about was how great the guy on my t-shirt (Eric Gales) was. I even told him: "Yeah, he's almost as good as YOU are!", to which he shook his head and replied: "No way, man... that guy blows me away!". Hardly the words of an egotist in my book. Of course, working for so many years with a grade A shit-stick like Don Dokken, whom I've also met three or four times and found to be a complete sphincter each time, is bound to make someone a tad bitter and grouchy. I'd wager he was probably just completely fucking fed up with "The Rock God" that is Don Dokken and was likely just venting a bit.

Sure, he probably could've displayed a bit more tact, but haven't you ever been so pissed off at someone that it made you a temporary asshole to be around? If not, let me be the first to congratulate you on your pending canonization. That's just human nature, man, just like it's human nature to hold someone else up to standards that we ourselves often fail to attain.
