Carlos Santana: Great guitar player - always a *solo artist* in reality. Career in the doldrums, gets together with some "new" faces, has some catchy commercial songs written and produced. Sells a gazillion albums and good luck to him.

Tony Iommi: Guitar player in one of the greatest and most influential hard rock *bands* ever. Replaces a singer (Ozzy) with another (Dio) and has some commercial success. Then puts out a string of crappy albums with a nevver ending cast of nobodies. Only the hardcore fans actually realize that Black Sabbath even still exists. Then in 1997 a long-standing feud with the original singer (Ozzy) gets put to rest and Black Sabbath (minus drummer Bill Ward) play some Ozzfest gigs. Two years later the original Black Sabbath reunites and plays a sold out world tour of arenas. Black Sabbath then *retires* and Tony Iommi puts out a decent but forgettable solo album with MULTIPLE singers including Ozzy. That album sells around 50,000 copies on the US.

Which brings us to 2001. Black Sabbath is again headlining a (probably) sold out Ozzfest and the original line up is recording a much anticipated new album for release later this year.

So what does this have to do with VAN HALEN. Well, if Eddie is thinking of going the Santana route he may want to call up his old buddy Tony and get some cold hard truths about band names, line ups, solo albums and reunions. Maybe they could even talk over the good old days like say....world tour 1978.....

    Just my opinion.

This topic doesn't have much to do with VH, I think it's better suited to Music Only, I am moving this topic there now.

    BTW, I would pick Santana.

It wasn't too cryptic, it was too long LOL! Georgie didn't really read what it was about either.

But you're right Jonathan, after I re-read it I see it is about VH. If you want it moved back to Main, ask one of the Supremes or Mods in this forum to move it back.

Dude not long ago i had a topic up about Iommi's solo cd he has out...where he has a rotating cast of singers...i thought that cd was one of the best i have heard all year...way better and less commercial than Santana's

I'd take Iommi anyday over Carlos

I'm not a fan of Santana's music either, but I have heard a live concert with him playing and he was awesome!

But...I have to say that his last album really sucked, i'm sure that Iommi's new CD is better.
