Honestly, that list was crap. The Beatles Revolver album in front of Sgt. Pepper. Mediocre bands like Nirvana at #2! Hendrix and Stevie Wonder (not even rock) in front of Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, and Cream! And Lauren Hill and the Beastie Boys, they're R&B and rap. And the worst insult of all. Madonna is on the list. She's makes bubble gum music and pop not rock. What morons picked that list. If you want a laugh, check it out on VH1.com

Actually, spare yourselves the laugh. The increased page hits there will only make them more money from their advertisers in one way or another. SO why support THAT??

Actually Hooligan, I WOULD give the nod to Revolver Over Sgt. Pepper any day. I DO think that Revolver is a damn amazing album. And though a huge Beatles fan myself, I always thought Sgt, Pepper was a bit overratted. Revolver, Meet The Beatles, and Abbey Road are my favorite Beatles records.....

HOWEVER I question MANY of the albums that made the list. Example: What the HELL is Madonna, Like A Prayer, doing in a best 100 Rock Album List? And though I love and own Miles Davis records, he is NOT rock and roll, gimmie a break!

I could go on with other examples, but I am just too disgusted!

I agree with BC on the Sgt. Peppers thing. It's a great album and all, but it's not really the Beatles' best work. It's just that its timing with the sixties music scene really propelled it to culture changing status, thereby causing people to point to it as the best Beatles album.

It's a bit like 1984 for our guys. It's a great album, but timing with MTV and Jump causes a bulk of people to think it's Van Halen's best album, even though many die hard fans wouldn't think so.

Glenn I agree with you 100%. Well put regarding the parallel between Sgt. Pepper's poularity with the 60's public, against 1984's popularity with the 80's public.

"1984", though a damn good album is certainly not my favorite VH record. Mine is and always will be "Fair Warning" (followed very closely by "Van Halen", and "5150.")

Sgt Pepper probably gets the nod because it was the first time in history that a rock album was conceived as one piece of music from beginning to end. The invention of what became known as the "concept" album.

I actually prefer Revolver and the White Album myself .

It's true that Sgt. Pepper was conceived as a concept album, but the Beatles themselves acknowledge that once it came to recording, the album really doesn't follow any concept at all. The songs are individual and really follow no plot line at all.
