Lately while riding around in the car (when no one is around to make fun of me ) I've been attempting to sing along with various singers to improve my range, learn to stay in tune, and develop a "punch" in my voice. In doing so I've gained respect for singers. My top three are:

Robert Plant- Hell no wonder his voice has given out after all these years. His range was CRAZY. Songs like "Stairway to Heaven" and "What is and what should never be" really show how he could go from low and melodic to high and powerful. When I tried to sing "You shook me" from the BBC sessions I think I tore something.

Sammy Hagar- He can get pretty high up there when he is singing and one naturally powerful voice in my opinion. It is like a wall of sound when he sings. The only real problem, his voice doesn’t have a “soft” switch. What I mean is, it sounds like he is yelling even when he is singing softer stuff. But I like his voice a lot.

Rob Halford- really cool controlled screams that add to the music as opposed to just showing off. And a good range. And damn cool lyrics.

Those are just my favorites, I’m not saying they are the best because I would have hear to every singer out there, and I haven’t. I'm sure I forgot some or left some out.

    Diamond Dave
    James Hetfield (Justice, Black Album)
    Sammy Hagar

Sammy Hagar and Tommy Shaw would be my top two. Probably Tommy first, Sammy second.

After that, maybe DLR with VH, Plant and Springsteen. I dig Stevie Nicks, and Sting when he rocked a bit with the Police. His first solo album was good, too. Obviously, with Sam, Stevie Nicks, and Sting I like a bit of rasp in the voice. Rod Stewart, in his prime. And, yes, I like Scott Stapp's voice. So shoot me. Chris Cornell has some killer pipes. Lou Graham in his prime, which he's no longer in. Pat Benatar.

Jeez, this list could go on and on and on...
