Glad you mentioned only pre-Promised Land songs, because I consider this the best period for Queensryche.
I love every single song off Operation:Mindcrime and Empire, so no fav list.
I'd mention One and Only for its power and drum part in the outro, Silent Lucidity because it's a ballad ten thousand times better than Metallica's Nothing Else Matters but no one else knows it, and Eyes of a Stranger that could have been written by Iron Maiden. But here comes Spanish Doctor to take me away

Actually Q2K is different from what they did before: I still miss DeGarmo (which is replaced by Kelly Gray), compositions are very grunge-ish, and apart from a few "old QR" songs the record is not at old QR standards. It isn't worth it. This for the music.
Next: the band is managed by Ray Danniels. Come on FORD, gimme a break!

I agree with Ernest, Geoff Tate has a one of the best voices in rock! They are also a Top 5 band for me Homeunit.
I have Q2K and I like it. But ddregs is right, old QR is better.
Their new guitar player Kelly Gray did change their sound, I find that the guitar solo's aren't that great on Q2K.
It's too bad Chris Degarmo left the band. But there are some great songs on Q2K. The songs I like the best on Q2K are Sacred Ground, Falling Down, Liquid Sky, and Beside You.
Did anyone ever hear a QR song called Last Night In Paris? I got it off Napster and it's really good. It's sounds like it is a unreleased song from Empire but i'm not sure.

Yankee, I got Last Night In Paris off Napster too. I had a co-worker tell me about it, and he said it was off a soundtrack. I can't find any info on it at the official QR site and its not on a discography. My favs in order are:
    1. Eyes Of A Stranger
    2. Queen Of The Reich
    3. Jet City Woman
    4. Empire
    5. Chasing Blue Sky
    6. Best I Can
    7. I Dream In Infared
    8. Chemical Youth ( We Are Rebellion)
    9. All Of Mindcrime
    10. All Of Rage For Order

Seriously, Tate has got one kick ass voice!

Last Time In Paris is from the Ford Fairlane soundtrack, and yes it was recorded during the Empire sessions.

So you can thank Andrew Dice Clay

I checked out the 'Ryche in Tulsa back on the Empire Tour w/Suicidal Tendencies and they did the ENTIRE Mindcrime album start to finish! That on top of the other faves! From the top of my head, I'd say (in no particular order)...
    Revolution Calling
    Breaking the Silence
    I Don't Believe in Love
    Eyes of a Stranger
You (should've been on the GH)
    Hand On Heart
    Silent Lucidity
    Take Hold of the Flame
    Warning
    Queen of the Reich
    The Lady Wore Black

I kinda got out of QR when Promised Land came out. Didn't really check out Q2K.

Hey House and Steven B thanks for solving the mystery of Last Night In Paris for me. It doesn't say what album it's from on their Official site, that is what made me believe it was unreleased. All it said was that it was a rare song.
