This is a really hard choice for me. I love all three of these bands and picking a favorite is not easy. It's too bad Alice In Chains and Soundgarden broke up, but STP is still going and they have a new album due out next month. Can't wait. Anyway, here's how I'd rank them:

1. Soundgarden
2. Stone Temple Pilots
3. Alice In Chains

Soundgarden by far. I never really got into AIC. STP had great potential, but slipped after their second album. I have all of their stuff, but it just doesn't move me like their first 2 albums do.

Soundgarden could have been one of the greats if they stuck it out, but there existing work is pretty damn good in its own right. VH1 even put them in I think the top 20 best hard rock bands of all time. Superunknown and Badmotorfinger are just plain masterpieces. There isn't a bad cut on Superunknown. I can't wait to see what Cornell comes out with next with the RATM guys.

I might be in the minority here but i really did not like Alice In Chains at all...especially that Rooster song...oh god what the hell is that

anyway Soundgarden is the best out of those three...they really kicked ass
STP is good shit too though...Scott Weiland knows how to be rock star

To me STP is a more dynamic band that the other two mentioned. They remind me of Zeppelin in that way. I remember when they came out people called them a Pearl Jam ripoff. Now I think they are a Zeppelin ripoff. And a damn good one at that!

Well, seeing as I never really got into Soundgarden, STP has IMHO gotten worse with each album, and Alice never had a chance to, I'll go with AIC.

Of course it's all too dark and depressing for me. Whatever happened to the musical merits of bands like Johnny Hates Jazz?

AIC--always liked Jerry Cantrell's sound & a helluva versatile player to boot. Sometimes Layne's vocals grate on the nerves, but I can handle it. I love cranking up "Them Bones" while driving through the bad neighborhoods, so I can get back for the
(c)rap I hear in mine!

BTW, Jerry's touring solo this summer (I've seen a Chicago date in July I think), so AIC's probably just on hiatus (again).

Soundgarden is a close second.

STP to me sounds more like Pearl Jam than Pearl Jam does! It seems like PJ's guitars in the first few albums were lost a bit in the mix, IMO

I think Alice In Chains blows the other two bands away. If I had to rank them:

1) Alice In Chains
2) STP
3) Soundgarden

*** As a side note, I would take Winger, Poison, or Styper over any three of them.

Alice In Chains , seen them open for Van Halen on the F.U.C.K. tour and have been a fan ever since . Jerry Cantrell is bad ass

As for STP and Soundgarden , I like them both as well .

Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

STP
AIC
Soundgarden

STP songs always sound familar because they regergitate a lot of what they grew up listening to (Aero-Zeppelin-Stones-Beatles...) And they do it better than most bands. The drumming is the weakest part. To basic for me. Not enough off-beats.
AIC, I never got to see but they are the closest to VH of these three for me. Rooster kicks ass! It's about the guitarists Dad when he was in Vietnam (i think).
Soundgarden I saw on a Lolapalooza tour and they were really good. That drummer is excelllent. But I never got into the music that much.
Unfortunaltely STP played only 4 of 12 songs off of No4 on their last tour. I really hope they play more new stuff. I'm sick of hearing Purple/Core material all the time. I think Tiny Music is awesome and I hope they play more of those songs this time around as well (only played 8/9 of the Tiny tunes in concert so far)
And the band that blows doors on all these guys....Jane's Addiction bad ass drummer, bad ass guitarist and cool lyrics.
