I don't know who will be on, or even if they are coming out with a soundtrack for this movie (probably), but if they do it should be done with nothin' but Zepplin tunes.

The Led Zep has used some Lord Of The Rings references in their songs ("Ramble On" and "Misty Mountain Hop" - well at least the title is taken from LOTR, minus the Hop part).

Others songs they could use in a sound track for LOTR would be: "The Battle of Evermore," "Stairway to Heaven," and "Over The Hills and Far Away."

I just wondered if anyone ever noticed the Lord Of The Rings influence in any of the Led Zepplin songs?

Can't remember which tune, but one of them specifically mentions Mordor.

I've read somewhere that one condition when Tolkien sold the movie rights was no hard rock music in the movie/soundtrack. Might be urban myth of course. Think maybe Blind Guardian were asked about it in an interview since they've done Tolkien based concept albums/songs - Blind Guardian suck so that's just as well.

We're going to see the movie tonight

I've heard the soundtrack.

It's your typical nondescript fanatasy orchestral score with the addition of a track with Enya singing in elven.

Peter Jackson was actually asked this question, and his response is printed on the LOTR website:

The fans at the official site ask...
What do you envision for the trilogy's score? Will you consider the music of actual bands such as Led Zeppelin, Blind Guardian or Enya? (Editor's Note: Howard Shore has since signed on to score the Trilogy.)

We have been talking to several composers about doing the soundtrack and have not yet made a decision, although we probably will very shortly. I'm imagining the score of the films to be orchestral, I'd also like to use interesting instruments, ancient instruments, to really evoke the cultures and the history of Middle Earth. I don't think it's appropriate to use existing music necessarily, I mean I know that bands like Led Zeppelin have written Tolkien-inspired songs, but I think just the nature of the music and the technology of their music would be inappropriate to the visual look of the film. I mean we have to make that, you know, we've taken a lot of care and time to give the films a very organic, real feeling and quality, and I think the music has to support that rather act against it. So I don't think there's any room for electronic music or any modern-feeling music, it should have an oldness, and a sort of ancient feel. So really I think that at this point in time certainly, and we haven't started post-production yet, but I'm imagining that all of the music will be original and new to the movies, written especially for the film.

Please no Blind Guardian. There is no cheesier band on earth.

What 'bout elfin Dio? Dio has rocked for a long, long time...

"Friends" or "Four Sticks" would be cool, too.. Maybe the versions Page and Plant recorded in Bombay, India in '72. Or "Yallah" or" Wah Wah"? Or some George Harrison?

How 'bout some Tenacious D??
