No contest. Mustaine. Better guitarist, singer, songwriter. Mustaine is the Godfather of Thrash metal.

i like metallica better (old). they kicked dave out of metallica because he was a tool, so i find that kinda interesting. however, i do think that dave does have talent, so on this topic i gotta go with dave, even though i'm more of a fan of james.

Which singer's voice do you prefer? Although I like Metallica more than Megadeth, I'd say Mustaine. He has a very unique voice, not many other people sound like him.

James Hetfield. No contest. Mustaine's voice sounds whiny to me.

Although I prefer far and away, the earlier Metallica albums: Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, And Justice For All, I WILL SAY that I like Jame's voice better on the later albums.

It's got more depth and feel to it IMO.

I may not care for all of the songs on The Black Album, Load, Reload, BUT I DO like his voice a lot better now (if this makes any sense)

Mustaine is better at singing, songwriting and guitar playing than Hetfield is. BOTH of Metallica's guitar players are inferior to Dave Mustaine so in other words, Kirk Hammett sucks too. Everything Megadeth has ever done has blown Metallica out of the water. Especially Rust in Peace.

Hetfield sounds like he gargled with gravel before he took the mic.

Mustaine actually has that good, solid, metal voice to him. High but not efeminate. Gifted with a good range but knowledgeable enough not to try and overdo it and end up Steve Perry

Without making a commentary on either of the bands, I'd have to go with Mustaine.

Daves voice makes me cringe, its so whiny and high. Especially in that song where he goes " Hello me meet the real me" holy shit i hate that guys voice.

Hetfields voice has gotten better throughout the years. On kill em all his voice is high like daves but now its totally different.
To me, Hetfield sounds great in the studio but he cant sing live...especially certain songs.

Dave's reputation had me a bit worried when Megadeth came thru our humble town about 3 years ago. That was when I worked at an "active rock" station and we played the hell out of Megadeth to help sell the place out.

Needless to say, there were over 1200 sweaty, crazy MD fans having a great time and even DM himself said they didn't get that kind of support in Los Angeles!!

I, along with the other 2 staff members, got to bring them out on stage that night. I hadn't met him yet, but as we were coming off the stage, I walked right past him in the dark as he was peeking out from behing a curtain. I was like "Hey!!! Dave!!"

He just smiled and nodded at me. I felt the bond...

After the show, we all got on the bus and talked with him for a bit. Very laid back, but a cool guy.

I don't like Megadeath, too heavy for me. Metallica I like from Black Album on, earlier stuff is too heavy for me, although there are individual songs from their earlier work I do like.

i like James' voice and think it has improved drastically over the years, hell he actually sings now instead of grunting groaning. Which leads me to this stray thought, Bruce Springsteen would have been a damn fine Metal singer because he always sounds like he is straining in desperation on the toilet!
