I have a question to pose. Do you think that ones true ability to critique music depends on whether or not they are a musician?

For example: I am not a musician. I can say "I know good music." But, I only know what sounds good to my ear and what does not.

I know to a certain extent it is a matter of taste. But, do you need to be a musician to know the difference between "a good tune" and "a great piece of music?"

i really think i hear things different than other people- literally- like, when i am listening to the same thing as you at the same moment in time- i literally hear something completely different than you...

everyone has their own perceptions- no matter what they are based on or how crazy most of them may seem to others... (i honestly can't believe what other people perceive as "good" most of the time) but perceptions are just shaped and formed by a myriad of different variables and influences-that is what makes people so damn complex... (especially women might i add)

so i honestly think, and have accepted the fact, that i just literally see and hear things differently than all other people... i am oscillating at a different wavelength or something like that- vibrations that resonate in consonance to my wavelength are dissonant to others, and vice versa...

i was told this morning that i "know nothing about music" (since i thought DLR was good last night - haha, how rediculous of me to think that my favorite singer was good?) - so contrary to what i used to think- i guess i am listening to sounds and music, perceiving it and making personal judgements on it, not really knowing anything about it? wow- that sux- i definitely aspire to someday rise to the level of that individual- so i will truly "know" what is good - that way i can make a much better evaluation of what sounds good to me for sure.... how do i learn to see and hear things like these higher level beings? or do i even want to? maybe if i don't know that i don't "know" what is good, i will just continue to be blissfully ignorant- and keep liking things that i wouldn't really like normally if i wasn't me, or if i just knew better-

this is no way live, huh? i am sure those who "know" what good really is must lead more meaningful lives or something. this all very confusing...

did any of that dribble make any sense to anyone? give me another hit off that crackpipe- just another damn roftard...

Funny you should mention that because a few years ago a friend of mine who is a musician and a singer was playiing at a club and I went to see him. At the end of the show, I went to him and said "you sounded great tonight". He said "are you kidding? I sounded like shit" I said " I thought you sounded great." He said "yeah, but you like David Lee Roth." He said it as a joke, and not in a mean way, but it is kinda the same idea. I think.

DG, it doesn't take a musician to have a good ear for music, as far as I'm concerned. You don't have to know scales and theory to recognize a good tune (hell, most musicians don't know those things!!! ).

Furthermore, too many musicians are narrow-minded and biased about what good music is anyway.

I always thought if you heard something you liked, it was good music. Nothing more to it. Just me though.
