    I am not sure if you guys know the great band The Cars (from Boston)... But the bassist from the band died last night of cancer... If everyone could take a minute out and reflect and all that would be great. I had the oppertunity to me Ben Orr back in high school doing a community service project thing, and he was a class act. Very friendly, cool, and down to earth. Anyway thanks..;

    Wow, bummers man. The Cars are pretty cool, one of the few bands my girlfriend & I can listen to at the same time. Moment of silence indeed.

    That sucks! That guy was underrated as a bassist and vocalist. The Cars are a great group, very underrated.

    Obviously sad news. Just for the record, how old was he and what type of cancer did he have?

    Though Ric Ocasek got most of the credit for the success of the Cars, it was Orr who wrote (and in some cases sang) a lot of their better material. For those of us who were in Jr High and High School when The Cars were all over the airwaves, they are a part of life's soundtrack just like the Mighty VH.

    You'll be missed, Ben

    thats a hummer
    but i'm not completely shocked by the news
    cause i saw a photo recently of all the Cars together for an interview that is going to be on a DVD coming out on Rhine called Cars Live. and they got the band together for this interview as bonus for DVD.

    anyway, in the photo Ben Orr looked sick. and i wondered if he was. Now i guess i know.

    they were really a great band.

    The Cars were a great band that ended too soon. Yes i agree with ford about ben not getting his well deserved recognition while he was in the Cars. To remember the man crank up the first Cars cd or the greatest hits. Rip Ben Orr. 3

    Anthology does the job, too! I hope that every band that used to be big and broke up that has ever entertained the notion of getting back together will look at Ben's passing and realise that none of us is here forever and put their differences behind them and remember why they made such great music to begin with. Sad to hear that Benjamin Orr is now gone. Rest in peace, dude.

    The only song I've ever heard of the Cars is "You Might Think", and it was on an old vinyl my parents bought me in 1983, a compilation of several artists including Michael Jackson, Journey, Cindy Lauper etc. The compilation was called LET'S BEAT IT and if I remember correctly it was a charity album to help the research on - you guessed it - CANCER.

    Ironic isn't it.

    That IS serious irony, Doc.

    For those of you crusing around on Napster today, I have a few old Cars demos online, most of them being Ben's material.
