This is mostly rumor/speculation from Blender magazine...

1> Rage, their label, and their management refuse to comment.
2> Cornell's manager would only confirm the break-up and said an album is still planned for the Summer.
3> According to one industry-insider, "Chris hates the band, the band hates Chris, the managers hate each other-there is a lot of hate."
4> Reports suggest that one or more of the parties was upset when Sharon Osbourne prematurely announced this year's Ozzfest line-up.
5> Others say the ex-Rage men wanted to remix Cornell's vocals on the 23 songs recorded last year and the singer refused.
6> Cornell was also said to be under pressure to leave his management for Rage's.
7> One certainty was that from the start, both management groups seemed lukewarm to the pairing.
8> The "new" Rage's record deal was also a source of tension: Epic Records was granted the band's first album, and Interscope (Cornell's label) received rights to the second. While both companies would shoulder costs and share profits, Epic had higher-profile rights, since it's name would appear on the band's premier release.
9> The album will still see the light of day before former-vocalist Zach de la Rocha's solo debut.

You know, I've listened to Rage for quite a while...and my opinion of Tom Morello has gone down more and more over the years. I think he's a hypocrite. He has more political views than Moby has music opinions. And the guy's always had a silver spoon. He went to Harvard for crying out loud. And he's trying to do movies now too (Made, 2001). How can you act like you're all about politics and helping the weak when you're just a bonafide rock star? No wonder Zack De la Rocha left. At least that guy is honest and legit, whatever you may think of his politics or vocal stylings...

He's got a cameo in either AOTC or Spider-Man this Summer, too. (I can't remember which one-didn't notice him in Spidey.)

CORNELL/RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE: The Exclusive Preview - May 7, 2002

Contrary to recent reports, the as-yet-untitled project featuring former SOUNDGARDEN vocalist Chris Cornell and members of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is not set for a late summer release on Epic Records — or any other date — according to Allstar, who cited a spokesperson for the label as the source of the information. Meanwhile, a 13-song, 62-minute disc from the sessions was recently previewed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET, and we can happily report that the album will be very much worth the wait when it does eventually surface, with Cornell's performance in particular living up to the high standard that we have come to expect from the man. Although tinges of RATM's signature groove-based rhythms are present in several spots, most of the tracks are moody, colorful slices of modern rock that display the kind of stunning musicianship and depth of emotion that most of the current crop of new-breed acts could only dream of conjuring up on an album release. It should also be noted that, despite this being nothing more than a "rough mix" version of the final product, Cornell's vocals appear on all 13 cuts and sound as close to finished as one could expect them to be, thus putting an end to the recent rumors suggesting that Chris' inability to complete the vocal tracks was largely to blame for the continued delay in getting the album released.

You know that as soon as they start sending these promos out, they'll be available for downloading in a few weeks! FH

Chris Cornell/ Rage Against The Machine "Rough Mix" Album Is Out There... Somewhere; No Word On Release Date

I'd prefer a new Cornell solo album personally. Euphoria Morning was a GREAT, underappreciated record.
"There's a Japanese term called wabi-sabi, not wasabi, but wabi-sabi. It means an appreciation for the imperfect, the less than precision. The cowboy boots that you never polish because it's bad luck. That is completely wabi-sabi. Van Halen is that." - DLR 2002<br /><br />"Look! I can see their parachutes! Unfuckingbelievable......

There are actually morons on Win MX right now trying to pass off Temple of The Dog songs as "Rage/Cornell" tracks.

And the same idiots who think Van Halen did Stairway to Heaven with Robert Plant will probably buy into it.......

The actual new album has yet to surface, however.
