I gotta go with Guns 'N' Roses Appetitie For Destruction.

That album is so kick ass! Came out my freshman year of high school and I've loved it ever since. Too bad Axl is such an asshole and that the band never came CLOSE to duplicating that album's sonic rage and aggression and sheer Rock and Roll BRILLIANCE.

That album is actually one of the greatest Rock and Roll records OF ALL TIME IMHO...

What about everyone else? What's the best album from the 80's (Not counting Van Halen albums)

#1 would have to be U2's The Joshua Tree. Others of note:

    AC/DC - Back In Black
    Bryan Adams - Reckless
    Aerosmith - Permanent Vacation
    Boston - Third Stage
    The Cars - Heartbeat City
    Def Leppard - Hysteria
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms
    Genesis - Invisible Touch
Guns 'N Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Don Henley - Building The Perfect Beast
    INXS - The Swing
    J. Geils Band - Love Stinks
Huey Lewis & The News - Sports
    Mike + The Mechanics
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Southern Accents
    The Police - Synchronicity
    Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels
Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues
    ZZ Top - Eliminator

And that's only allowing one album per artist and also leaving out the greatest hits and live albums that came out during the 80s. Plus there were some albums by artists that didn't make it but probably could've, but I already knew I was going overboard!

There are so many, it's impossible to choose. Right now, though my decision could change 3 seconds after I post this, my choice would be "Operation: Mindcrime" by Queensryche. It's by far the most brilliant album ever done by a hard rock/heavy metal band. I can listen to that over and over and never get tired of it.
