Well, to start with, get the Best of ZZ Top (covers the early era), ZZ Top's Greatest Hits (covers the "popular" era) and One Foot In The Blues (selected awesome cuts, mostly off the early albums), then as you decide which songs you like off these albums, get the rest (and don't forget Tejas, which doesn't seem to get any respect, Antenna, Rhythmeen and XXX, their most recent albums.) You can also kill a lot of ground by getting The Six Pack, which is their first five albums plus El Loco on three "custom" CDs! It's all so fine!

I'd grab the Six-Pack if I were you. That gives you the whole early catalogue.

If you just want to buy two though, I'd grab the 1992 Greatest Hits and Tres Hombres. Tres Hombres has Waitin' For the Bus, Jesus Just Left Chicago, Beer Drinkers, Hot, Blue and Righteous and La Grange among others. All awesome tunes.

Probably the two Greatest Hits collections, but excluding compilation albums I'd say get Eliminator and Tres Hombres.

I love that fuckin' C.D.

Anybody that I've played that for either wants a copy or buys it.

A great blues collection!

Six Pack would probably be your best bet.

That's a good question. This is the only thing I could find following a link of their website (from an article on them playing at George W. Bush's inaugural ball):

Hill was found to have Hepatitis C, which forced the band to cancel its XXX Tour in May. A spokesman said he's on the mend and has been rehearsing in studio with Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard, a fellow Dallasite and Irving High School alum.

from Ft. Worth Star-Telegram 1/11/01

also was surprised to find out that Deguello had been out of print (because of copyright claims on "Dust My Broom" between Elmore James and Robert Johnson) but is coming back out 'cause everything's been settled (nothing ZZ Top did wrong - they had only credited James, now they will credit James and Johnson. What sounds to me like the same song appears on Fleetwood Mac's 25 Years The Chain as "I Believe My Time Ain't Long" and is credited to Jeremy Spencer!)

Well, I have the following albums, which I all like:

First Album
Tejas
Eliminator
Recycler
Greatest Hits
One Foot In The Blues

Just my two cents about it.

My advice is to buy the first 6 cdīs separetly rather than buy the six pack īcause the six pack is remixed and the sound, especially the drums, is just awful. Tres hombres and Rhythmeen are albums i would start with but along with Rhythmeen all of those older albums are great so itīs hard to go wrong with any of those..

Nah, the first 5 and El Loco are remixed/mastered as well - noticeable differences in songs between The Best Of ZZ Top (which wasn't remixed/mastered) and the albums - "Heard It On The X", "Back Door Love Affair", "Jesus Just Left Chicago" are ones that stand out.

I still think Tres Hombres is their best album. Got the original vinyl from 1973 around somewhere, and damn did they ever fuckup "Jesus Just Left Chicago" on the 6 pack.
