i don't know what this guy is doing!!

i used to be a big fan of his, but after hearing the last half of fire garden and then the ultra zone, i am sooo confused...lol.

his newest one, "the seventh song", is a compillation of stuff. 8 of the 11 songs are old ones and three of them are new. only one of them has any falvor to me and that one is called" boston rain melody".

vai is flippin out here man. i wish he would put out something like alien love secrets or passion and warfare again! this all seems so sub-standard for a guy of his ability..

    My sentiments exactly.

No one has gone downhill musically faster then Steve Vai. He holds the record here!

I don't like vai for some reason ...

I think it's cause he has no "rythm" ...

Sure he can play a mean lead but ...

Just by looking at most of my post pro-Steve, you may judge me as the last Vai-defender.
I'd like to add to this:
    1) Georgie is completely right (but I liked Alien Love Secrets and The Fire Garden suite, not the sung songs) about Vai's records.
    2) If you are not a good composer, surely it will show up with the time.
This is the case with Vai and was the case with Satriani, stuck with his own formula and tryin' to escape it doin' techno-guitar.
    3) Usually I found out that in guitar players, the more the shredder, the less the composer. Eddie Van Halen was better than Vai just for this, as a lot of other guitar players are.
    4) If you'd love to listen to great instrumental music, go out and buy Dixie Dregs, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, or go back to Mahavishnu Orchestra.
They all have creativity in every finger, and this either you like the music or not.

I found that this holds true in most metal bands with two guitarists.

Vai's gone down fast, but I believe George Lynch holds the title for going down fastest. As soon as the '80's ended, so did George's good material. The last Dokken albums with Lynch were horrible. It's like he couldn't write anything listenable anymore. His Lynch Mob albums suck too. I'd like to know why his style changed so drastically...At least Don and the others can still sound good with Reb..."Erase the Slate" kicks ass!
