Anyone want to give their reviews of this one? I've already noticed it is one of the few books this holiday season to NOT have a 25% off sticker on the cover. Gene must want every penny he can get.

Back to the book though...what do you all think of it? I've heard some good things and some bad. Before I spend $26 on this one, I wanna be sure it's worth it.

    Advice / tips?

Have you seen the picture in there of Ace making out with another guy? What a class guy Gene is. There's a million pictures floating around of these guys, so obviously this picture hasn't been made public, so why the hell would Gene release it? What a fuckin' prick.

Anyway, I saw the book today for 20% off, but the damn thing is $40 bucks regular. Don't really want to pay that much, especially because the book isn't very thick and the typing is pretty big too.

Sorry CK, no real info from me here (isn't that unusual? ), just have to chime in whenever KISS is mentioned.

That's OK, Glenn. I'm not sure if I wanna spend $26 stateside on a bunch of stories that make someone out to be a "god-like" figure.

From what I understand, everything in the book is given credit solely to Gene. I read this opinion from the Kiss Asylum BB. However, I don't find it too hard to believe. If there were some real interesting reads in it, I might consider it, but I think it just sounds like a literary slam on Ace & Pete and some verbal stroking of "$omeone's" ego.

I read most of it, it's a really good book. If the price bothers you then wait for the paperback. It gives some real insight into what it takes to survive and then thrive in the music industry without being somebody's ass-puppet.

I don't know if it's already been covered on this board yet but according to Gene, Eddie Van Halen supposedly talked to Gene about joining KISS durring the recording of "Fair Warning". Gene talked him out of it and told him that they had just hired Vinnie Vincent.

The part where he discusses Van Halen is way too short.

Someone on the KISS BB said that Gene had alluded to the fact that the "Christine 16" demo with Ed & Al didn't make it to the boxset because KISS couldn't gain the "rights" to the song. Wonder if this was a block from VH? I don't know...

Too bad he didn't discuss his VH involvement anymore than he did. Did he talk much about working with a bunch of those hair bands from the 80's like Keel and Black N Blue?

I wouldn't buy a Kiss book if I saw it on sale for a dollar.

But I'll feel free to criticize Gene if I feel like it. And I feel he's more than open for criticism for putting a picture in his book that makes Ace look incredibly bad. Ace's persona is one of the things that hard core KISS fans love, which continues to put cash in Gene's pockets, so for Gene to embarress Ace that way is pathetic.

And for me, Gene's "I have no integrity" line doesn't excuse his not having any integrity. He's an average songwriter, a below average lyricist, and an all around greedy person. Putting his face on a casket is the most degrading thing in the history of commercialism.

Why some KISS fans are so sensitive to KISS being criticized is beyond me.

BTW, I bought the KISS boxset today, so I guess that gives me the right to judge that.

Dude, c'mon. Lighten up a bit. KISS and Gene Simmons in particular would readily admit to all the "slamming" we do of them here. Do you think it hurts their feelings?

Hell no. All they want is a little more of my money and if I'm gonna give of it so willingly, then I have a right to make a decent judgement on whether or not I wanna help put Gene's mom in a new home. If someone wants to shed some light on how much of a whore Gene portrays himself to be, then so be it. These words come directly from his mouth...these guys are just relaying the info as to what they've read.

By the way, KISS gets slammed a lot harder on the KISS Asylum BB than they ever do here so chill out hombre. You like KISS? Fantastic...rock & roll all nite and party every day dude.

Reread the posts we made again...there were no slams made against the God of Blubber. Ooops...well, OK. Maybe ONE.

KISS is active on their official website, unlike a certain band from Pasadena. Anyway, as far as working with other bands, Gene slants it to make it look like KISS gave some big names their start. That's about it.

It's interesting that he admits his own mistakes.

The most compelling stuff is the beginning when he's a kid in Israel and then moving to the USA. The thing is, if you're a big KISS fan, then there are few suprises.

I got the book today as a matter of fact. I skipped all the early shit, and when right to heart of the book. Pretty cool read actually so far. I had forgotten that he was taggin' Shannon Tweed. Way to go Gene! LOL. I also had no idea that he had two kids. I'm out of the Kiss loop as of late. They were cool when I was a kid, and I like biography type things. Enough Kiss bashing from me on this end. Out.

Trust me, homeskillet...you ain't bashin' anyone here, at least not as far as I can tell. Just bein' honest which is all I asked for. Your portrayal of Gene in this book makes me wanna do more than just consider buying the book now. Thanks for the tip, t5!

I actually did get the book for Christmas (as well as the Box Set).

I have read a few passages so far and I hate Gene for putting that photo of Ace kissing that old guy in the book. Fuck, without Ace, KISS WOULD NOT HAVE BECOME AS BIG AS THEY DID.
Besides, lets look at 1978. All four members released solo albums. Who's sold the most and ROCKED the most? It was Ace's. Even Gene admits that his album was the best (however, it befuddles me how in the book he says that his album was selling better than Ace's at first. Maybe so---but in the end Ace's outsold Gene's by a mile. Also, he was the only one who had a hit song from it "New York Groove".

I admit Ace and even Peter Criss have had their share of drug and alcohol problems but Gene goes too far as bashing them in his book (and then covers it up with a few "nice" things to say).

I'd be surprised if Ace or Peter decide to rejoin Gene and Paul to complete the never-ending Farewell Tour.

I've met Ms.Tweed and Gene's kids. His son is a chip off the old block, he will be a monster success in whatever he decides to do with his life. His daughter is really smart and has a sophisticated sense of humor for her age.

The thing is, I worked in a toy store and they were in there for about twenty minutes playing with stuff and having fun. I thought they were cool kids anyway, then his son says'Moms here." and I look out and it's Shannon Tweed. She's 100 times better looking in person...so lucky me. She's also over six feet tall wich puts her breasts at eye level, proving that there is a God.

    Cool,huh?
