I was watching MTV2 last night and caught the great Johnny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt".....It was very impressive.

Anyone else see it or hear hit yet?

It's on Johnny Cash's new "American IV The Man Comes Around" album. On a side note, Mark Romanek directed the videos for Cash's version of "Hurt" and NIN's version of the same song. I don't know if a video director has ever directed both the original song and a cover of it.....

Directed by Mark Romanek. If you haven't seen it yet, it's on his website

    Johnny Cash Makes 'Em Hurt

    Video leaves Reznor, viewers speechless

While scouting locations for his video of Johnny Cash's cover of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt," director Mark Romanek visited the House of Cash museum in Nashville. "It had been closed for a long time," says Romanek. "The place was in such a state of dereliction. That's when I got the idea that maybe we could be extremely candid about the state of Johnny's health -- as candid as Johnny has always been in his songs."
The result is one of the most intense and affecting videos in memory. Romanek, known for his work with Madonna and on Fiona Apple's "Criminal," combined archival shots of the Man in Black riding trains and entertaining prisoners with new footage of the seventy-year-old Cash at home, with no effort made to hide his age or frailty.

Cash's producer, Rick Rubin, sent a copy of the video to NIN's Trent Reznor. "We were in the studio, getting ready to work -- and I popped it in," Reznor says. "By the end I was really on the verge of tears. I'm working with Zach de la Rocha, and I told him to take a look. At the end of it, there was just dead silence. There was, like, this moist clearing of our throats and then, 'Uh, OK, let's get some coffee.'"

The "Hurt" video is getting airplay on VH1 and MTV2, and the song has been added to the playlist of the influential Los Angeles radio station KROQ. "I don't think any of us expected anything to come of this video on any commercial level," says Romanek, a longtime Cash fan who begged Rubin to let him direct "Hurt," even offering to shoot it for free. "If you know you're about to see a video, your expectations are pretty low. So I think that's what grabs people: Mortality is a very unusual topic for this medium. But I ascribe most of the power to the Johnny Cash-ness of it all."

I heard Cash's cover of "Hurt" this morning on my local radio station that usually plays Blink 182 and Audioslave. It's great to hear this song getting airtime with groups 50 years younger than he is.

Very cool video. Makes you stop and think about
    how quickly time goes by.
Seeing Johnny Cash today is kind of sad but I
bet you if someone asked him if he would change
anything, he would give a big HELL NO!!
    Enjoy life NOW.

Johnny has done more in his carreer than most and for most. It's nice to see the American recordings (4 now) getting back in the mainstream. Rockers and kids alike knowing who he is and liking him. I thought Rusty Cage was the weakest song on the CASH album, but still a cool cover. This is a guy I would gladly pay $100 to see. He's got a nerve disorder and can't tour anymore, yet he still puts out a cd every other year. Van Halen ought to take notice.

If the object of a video is to get the point of the lyrics in a song across, then this has to be the greatest video ever made. I have seen it, and I too, was about in tears. Johnny Cash has long been a favorite in my house. It's hard to see people that you grew up idolizing in that condition.
Everyday I break my previous record for consecutive days staying alive.
