Anyone see the Doors on Leno? I just don't think that it's the Doors without Morrison. It would be like Mike and Sam touring and calling it Van Halen.

EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. If there’s something I can’t deal with, I can just spend hours playing. It’s a God-given gift – I certainly don’t know where the ideas come from. They’re obviously given to you, and you have to keep your fingers moving and your mind quiet. I try my best to not think about thinking, so I can just let it flow. Because when I start thinking, forget it. <br />So....why he isn't playing guitar ? ? ?

I'm pretty irritated that they're calling this lineup "The Doors". It's worse than Axl keeping the Gn'R name. Not only are the Doors' contributions to music of far greater significance, IMO, but as far as I'm concerned, Jim Morrison WAS the essence of the Doors. I think it's horrible that they've replaced him with as mainstream an 80s rocker as Ian Astbury. Ray Manzarek may have been the brains behind the band, but I'd have thought he'd have more respect for Jim's legacy than to piss all over it by hiring a pair of 80s clowns to fill in for him and Densmore, and then tour under the name of the Doors just to cash in.

I saw them on Leno. Pretty good. It's nice to see Krieger and Manzurek and Stewart Copland and the guy from the Cult playing great fucking music. It was spooky.

Fuck, if the Who can go out and tour with half the band why not the Doors?

Well, I agree with most who've posted so far. I think they should leave the Doors name alone already. I mean, Jim Morrison died over 30 yrs ago. And I think he was a huge and irreplaceable part of that band. In fact, beyond Morrison, I don't think they were all that impressive musically. I think those guys today (Krieger, Copeland, Manzerak, and Astbury) could make good, fresh new music together, which I hope they're doing rather than rehashing the old stuff that we've all heard a million times.

It's really a supergroup, they should at least have Densmore....

Astbury is a great singer though.

Well, think of the implications if they didn't go by the doors. They would have to explian why they play the music they were a part of. "Light my Fire" was written by Manzerick anyway

When I saw Ian Astbury with his hair cut off and sunglasses on, it almost made me shit myself. Copeland is good enough to fill in for any drummer anywhere, and Densmore told these guys no way, no matter what you've read on the net about it being health related, he wanted no part of this or any other bullshit sellout ideas that are put in front of them all the time.

I really don't think anyone who it matters to enough to care would go see this line-up. Astbury can be a very powerful live presence and he sucked on Leno, because no one can be Morrison, bad move in my opinion. It was cool to hear the tune, and see Robby rip a few taps on the guitar, as he's very good live if you get the chance to see him.

The people that go see this line-up, will love it, and eat it up. But I doubt you see the most die-hard fans there. If Densmore said no, they will too out of respect for him and what "the Doors" mean to them. I really thought ahead of time, that Astbury would take this deal by the balls, but myself, I think he's seen better days, and I've always felt he was a great singer. The Doors music isn't near the test the Cult music is for him, so I don't get the lackluster performance. If I ever got the chance to get up there and sing one of those songs, I'd leave nothing in the tank, especially on a nationwide tv show where they were only playing one tune, and that might wind up being the biggest add for the tour.
