Everybody knows that the Ozzy-led Sabbath are untouchable. The Dio era is considered Classic too, and the Gillan era, whilst under-rated, has a lot of supporters too.

What do you guys think of the '86 (supposed to be an Iommi solo) release with Glenn Hughes. Very under-rated album - I've been listening to it a lot recently. The songs are very strong - it's not really Sabbath - (how could it be without Geezer or Bill) - but it still is a very worthwile addition to any Sabbath fans collection.

I thinks it's their last great album though, after this came the Tony Martin era - and those albums do absolutely nothing for me at all. I didn't think much of Dio's comeback in '92 either - DULL!!!! - dull production, dull songs - heavy for the sake of being heavy.

On "Live Evil" with Dio, the prelude to "Neon Knights", is titled - "E5150." Hmmm....., you ever notice that?

The Iommi solo albums sucked. Only thing worthwhile at all between Sabbath's reunion at Live Aid and their "final" reunion recently was "Dehumanizer", the Dio lineup reunion.

Just as Van HALEN is Dave, Eddie, Mikey, and Alex, so Black Sabbath is Ozzy, Tony, Geezer, and Bill.

The Dio mutation of Black Sabbath (Rainbow Sabbath?) was certainly more faithful to the sound of their predecessor than Van Hagar was.

And "Purple Sabbath" (with Ian Gillan) certainly outperformed Van Danniels III in every possible way.

Iommi eventually learned his lesson. Gillan obviously hasn't yet. And Eddie...... jury's not in yet.

It's alright and certainly better than anything with Tony Martin. I agree that Dehumanizer is very dull, the last good Sabbath studio album was Born Again. Iommi plays some nice leads on 7th Star and Hughes has a good voice, but the songs are metal-by-the-numbers IMO.

Much more interesting is 8th Star, an aborted Iommi solo album from '96 featuring Hughes on vocals. That one got leaked to the bootleg circuit, where it was given its highly imaginative title.
