I was reading one o' them other threads there, and "No Speak No Slave" by the Black Crowes was mentioned. Now on the album, I never really got that track, it didn't quite cut it to me.... But then I saw 'em at the Glastonbury Festival, and they started with that song and it suddenly made sense to me. Now I love that song.

It was the same with "Magic Touch" by Aerosmith. I thought it was kinda cheesy on the record, but seeing it live, it was a lot tougher, and it kinda changed my perspective on the track.

Anybody noticed a similar thing with other songs?

Wait a minute!? Okay now that I read over it twice it makes sense to me, ...

    Uhm Top 3?

Pearl Jam "even flow", you know the words the message I got on the record version but live it put me in a trance. The whole vibe I felt was a happy one to say the least.

Van Halen "Mine all Mine", sure I got it on the LP, but that being my first VH live song ever hearing was pretty arm hair rising in itself.

Pearl Jam "Crown of Thorns", and again I guess I'm going with ambience cause I did not really apreaciate this song ti'll I heard it live.

    Kick-ass thread btw TDR, ...

Well for me it was the solo, I mean shit it was the opening song of the ou812 tour the same day they got back from the european tour I think and it was all EVH. That's in Boz's top 5 solo's by EVH IMHO ...

    Great thread!

I'd definitely say 'Goodnight Saigon' by Billy Joel is extremely profound live...I've seen him have Vietnam Vets sing the chorus and it's heartbreaking...

'Thunder Road' by Springsteen...first time I saw that live it was an experience!

    'Born To Run'-Springsteen...

Basically, Springsteen has always set the bar live and I've been to a million shows...VERY few touch it and VH is one of the few...

I've only ever heard the live version of that from his Russian Live album. I used to play that back to back all the time when I was 16! Broke the tape!

I begin to see that we have similar musical tastes mate!

    Cool thread!

I saw King David Lee Roth live in '94 and although I dug YFLM,the songs took on a nastier heavier feel in the live settin'. Plus, there was no Travis Tritt in site.

Well that's good to hear, the album did kinda lack balls... He played in my town, but I couldn't make it on that tour! Never again will I make that mistake...

Damn. I've said it before, and I've kinda got my balls hangin out here by mentioning this amongst some killer tunes (not to mention the contraversy with this song), but Josephina was simply awsome live for Van Halen. They did great things with the lights and the laid back atmosphere of the song just worked.

I've pretty much liked everything I've hear from him, though I don't own any of his stuff. It's like that for a lot of artists for me. Only so much time to listen to albums so you get kinda selective in your purchases y'know... plus, Elvis Costello is ALWAYS in the bargain bin, so I concentrated on getting his stuff 'cos it's cheaper

I hear ya,TDR. Terry Kilgore is stellar, but not a gunslinger in the EVH or Stevie Vai or Jason Becker caliber. I've seen a video bootleg from London '94 floatin' 'round--I'll let ya know if I see it again.
