NEWS - Led Zeppelin Considering Reunion For 2003?
    08/26/2002

(8/26/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Is Led Zeppelin going to give a "whole lotta love" to its fans again next year? Sources in the band's management tell LAUNCH that a reunion of singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, and bassist John Paul Jones could well be in the offing for 2003.

Page is currently working on a DVD set of unreleased live performance footage and other video material, which is due next year. Its release would provide the catalyst for the three musicians to get back together to tour again for the first time since 1980--drummer John Bonham died September 25 of that year, and the remaining members chose to break up rather than continue on without him.

Page, Plant, and Jones reunited for the 1985 Live Aid shows and the 1988 Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary concert, but Jones was left out of the Page-Plant projects from 1994 to 1998, though he did join them for the group's induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995.

Plant is being circumspect about any potential reunion plans. When asked by Detroit, Michigan-area radio station WCSX-FM about any Page-Plant plans in the future, he cracked, "Well, there might be a Page-Plant lunch."

Plant is currently touring to support his new solo album, Dreamland, and next performs Tuesday (August 27) with the Who in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

This year Jones also put out a solo album titled The Thunderthief.

Another band I never got to see live. I wonder who would be the drummer. Jason Bonham? The guy has been playing their songs his entire life so I wouldn't see why not.

From an interview with Jason Bonham:

BD: Do you remember getting on stage for the soundcheck at Knebworth?
JB: Ah, vaguely, yeah. Dad said "Do you know "Trampled Underfoot?" I said "Yeah" He said "We're gonna play it." So I just got on the drumkit, and Jimmy went "Right, ready, ready" And Jonesy started off, and Jonesy knew it was me, but Robert and Jimmy did not, they didn't look around for a while. Yeah, it was great fun!

BD: I heard that Jimmy freaked when he turned around (and saw it was Jason and not John)?
JB: He's like "Where's John then?" Because he saw my Dad out front, and he went "Well, who's playin'?" It was kind of funny!

Sounds like he could pull it off - he fooled Jimmy

Well in all fairness Jimmy was probably wasted beyond belief at the time.

They've tried to reunite a few times. In 1986 they were rehearsing at some hall in Britain with Tony Thompson on drums. It didn't work out - Tony Thompson ended up in a car crash and broke his leg. The rehearsals slowly ground to a halt.

In 1991 they were all about to sign on to do a tour but when they were about to all sign the contract Robert left for lunch and never came back.

I don't know how good this is gonna be. I would have prefered to have seen Page with the Black Crowes.

    Hey SactoFan,

Not to hijack this thread, but are you going to the Punks show at the Roadhouse in a couple weeks?

    Just curious...

    Page is a whore.

For the right price, he'd do ANYTHING short of playing on a rap record.

Oh wait... He already diddy do that.

LED ZEPPELIN: No Reunion Planned! - Sep. 1, 2002

LED ZEPPELIN fans shouldn't hold their breath for a much-rumored reunion, representatives of the three surviving ZEPPELINites have told The Toronto Sun.

Despite last week's Launch report claiming a reunion "could well be in the offing" for 2003, according to "sources inside band management," there are no concrete plans for the guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant and bassist John Paul Jones to reunite anytime soon.

"This news appears yearly. There is nothing to report and no statement to give," said a publicist for Page.

A spokesman for singer Plant: "This news piece comes up every year. Robert won't be able to interview about this."

A publicist for Jones: "I spoke to John Paul's personal manager, and he knows nothing about it."

LED ZEPPELIN disbanded in 1980 after drummer John Bonham died from choking on his own vomit after a drinking binge.

Page, Plant and Jones have played together in public only three times since — at Live Aid in 1985, at the Atlantic Records 40th anniversary concert in 1988, and at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction gala in 1994. Page and Plant together recorded two albums and toured from 1994-98.
