OZZY OSBOURNE To Release 'Best Of' Set - Jan. 14, 2003

A brand new OZZY OSBOURNE compilation, titled "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne", is scheduled for release on Jan. 28 via Sony Music.

A two-CD set, the collection reportedly features "digitally remastered" versions of the OZZY classics. There is no word yet if the compilation includes any songs from the "re-recorded" versions of OSBOURNE's early catalog that caused a furor among die-hard fans when re-released last year.

The complete track listing for "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" is as follows:

CD1:
01. Crazy Train
02. Mr. Crowley
03. I Don't Know (Live)
04. Suicide Solution
05. Goodbye To Romance
06. Over The Mountain
07. Flying High Again
08. Diary Of A Madman
09. Paranoid (Live)
10. Bark At The Moon
11. You're No Different
12. Rock 'n' Roll Rebel
13. Crazy Babies
14. Miracle Man
15. Fire In The Sky
16. Breakin' All The Rules

CD2:
01. Mama, I'm Coming Home
02. Desire
03. No More Tears
04. Time After Time
05. Road To Nowhere
06. I Don't Want To Change The World (Live)
07. Perry Mason
08. I Just Want You
09. Thunder Underground
10. See You On The Other Side
11. Gets Me Through
12. Dreamer
13. No Easy Way Out

Hmmm. Nothing from Speak of the Devil or The Ultimate Sin. Two more records from my youth that cease to exist. How much longer before Bark at The Moon is swept under the rug?

Just another cynical attempt at exploitation of the market by Sony.

Do we really need another Ozzy best of? Ozzman Cometh was sufficient, IMO.

The lack of Speak of the Devil and Ultimate Sin doesn't really bother me... I don't think SotD really had tracks that I'd put on a Best Of. I might put Shot in the Dark on from Ultimate Sin, but that's about it.

I hope this doesn't have the bogus versions of the Blizzard and Diary tracks. I'm still pretty irritated over that whole shebang.

No way I'm putting anymore money in Ozzy's pocket. His career has become a complete embarressment, and he should be ashamed of things such as the disgraceful re-recording of his classic albums.

And I don't know why The Ultimate Sin is being ignored (kinda like VH ignoring Diver Down, but anyways...). You're telling me a piece of shit song like Fire In the Sky, which is surely one of Ozzy's most pathetic songs, is more worthy of inclusion than a great, forgotten, track like Fool Like You? Thunder Underground also sucks, as does most of that Ozzmosis album, and Facing Hell is virtually the only half decent song on Down To Earth.

I'll pass on this one. I have almost all of Ozzy's albums anyway (none with the re-recorded music) and won't shell out the money for a double-disc greatest hits. Anyway, Shot In The Dark should be included.

I can't believe nothing from the Ultimate Sin is on there, I loved that album. 1986 was a great year for metal, Master of Puppets, Peace Sells, Reign in Blood, and of course The Ultimate Sin. Maybe he did'nt include it because he did'nt want to pay Jake E. Lee for royalties for those songs? He had the drum tracks for some of his older stuff rerecorded cause he couldn't reach a financial agreement with the old drummer right?

This looked pretty promising up until they ommitted "The Ultimate Sin" material.

I'll admit I was never too wild about that album, but "Shot In The Dark" and "Ultimate Sin" were good tracks.

The deep cuts are fine, but where's "You Can't Kill Rock & Roll"?? I hear that one on the radio CONSTANTLY.

Sounds like another cash-in attempt at releasing the same old shit yet again!
Can anyone say KISS!?
Greatest Hits...Greatest Hits Live...Another Greatest Hits...Blah, Blah, Blah...
Who's responsible for these things? Is it the bands or the labels?
The whole idea is pretty lame. "Let's rip the die-hard fans for some more money, and make them buy stuff that they had years ago!"

Exactly.
That's why I can't get excited about VH BO2 -
Who cares what the hits were, I have them already.
Hell, I passed on BO1 despite the 2 new tracks
becacause:
A. I heard 'em plenty, and
B. They didn't even bother to remix/remaster the
old shit. Whadda jip.

In the liner notes of BOV1 it says "All songs digitally remastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Studios, L.A."

Correct. The songs on BOV1 are remastered. Nobody ever remixes stuff (except ozzy, who replaces drums and bass and remixes, what an idiot).

Whatever.
Still sounds the same, and I thought as
much as Ed has bitched about being panned
to one side on all the old shit, he would
have certainly found it in his power to
be more proactive in his own project a la
Page for the Zep box.
Bottom line: same old crap = no sale.
