I got to thinking...what if the 2 most prolific songwriters got together to write an album. That would be Steve Harris and Neil Peart. (IMO). Both of these guys have written tunes that challenge the mind and it is obvious that they are both well educated, well - read human beings. I enjoy "thinking mans metal" more than anything, especially in todays rock where they talk about nothing ( the name eminem comes to mind). Putting their instrumental talents aside on bass and drums, I would love to hear what kind of lyrics they could come up with on a wide variety of topics. Who knows...

Just to entertain the idea, what if Sam and Dave wrote a song together?

Mike...cool idea...They be an interesting pair.

On the snippy side, I think you meant profound, instead of prolific...Prolific means a whole lot...

As in, Van Halen's musical output could be described as anything but prolific over the past several years...

To be snippier, the term "prolific songwriter" has been around for decades. It simply means that the songwriter has had a great (in amount of good songs) output.

Who do you guys think would be a good guitarist to play with the Harris/Peart combo? You think someone who's a great songwriter as well, or do you think too many "cooks in the kitchen" would create a chaotis mess? Maybe a session whiz or a seasoned sideman like Slash, perhaps?

prolific...profound....whatever....they both write some kickass lyrics. As far as a guitarist?? Hmmmmmm, i would have to choose someone with intensity and attention to detail. Harris and Peart are masters at their craft so I would have to choose someone on axe with the same ability. Steve Vai!!
