Yes, I'm talkin' 'bout ZZ Top. Why you ask? Well, in another thread about another trio it was said that the other trio was the best ever, but I have to disagree. These three guys - one named Beard, two with beards, crank out some of the tastiest blues flavoured rock 'n roll this side of the Rio Grande. I'm not talking 'bout the mid-eighties, synthesisers and purty girls in videos model, I'm talkin' 'bout the early years, the stuff that makes your speakers smoke and you can just smell the barbecue cookin'. But I have nothing against some of the eighties stuff, and they've had kind of a return to form in the nineties. I saw 'em a few years ago and for tres hombres it was one of the crunchiest shows I've ever been to. Amazing stuff.

Great band, though I've never seen them live. I would say that Jesus Just Left Chicago is easily my favorite ZZ Top song.

I remember reading once that Billy Gibbons used to be in a band called (I believe) the Moving Sidewalks and that none other than Jimi Hendrix was a fan of his. Can't beat that for an endorsement.

ZZ Top is a great band. They may not be the best musicians around, but they definately have a sound that most bands can only dream of having. They are really popular here in Memphis, as they have kind of made this their second home. I've also read about Hendrix digging Billy Gibbons. Ed and Dave dig ZZ as well.

ZZ Top O Hell Yes! I love ZZ as much as I hate Rush(serious ear damage causin'). ZZ's early and their last two albums,oh nellie! How 'bout "Brown Sugar?" Isn't that one nasty lowdown tune? And I love all of Van Halen's ZZ Top covers over the years--HEAVY!

I know everyone is and will always be entitled to his opinions, and that's right.
I got to know ZZ Top by Eliminator time, and I loved the record. Even if there was synths (I was 12). But listening to Rio Grande, I admit it's a different level of band. Pretty much blues-rock, with Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and Dusty Hill being a tight band. I told about Rush in *that* different thread because in their career they played (and *how* did they play) some heavy rock, ballads, prog music, synth driven, grunge, rock, fusion. Different styles, and they had the courage of reinventing themselves every time. Like it or not....
