Okay, here's my first go at starting a cool topic. It's something that I enjoy talking about, who knows if other VH fans feel the same. Oh, by the way, I'm Dan, the latest fanatic or something.

Here's the question: Obviously Dave and Ed have really diverse musical influences. Dave always talks about the great stuff he used to listen to as a kid. Ed's a student of classical as well as blues and rock. What about you guys? Do you have any musical preferences outside of VH? And I don't mean like Led Zeppelin or Crue. I mean REALLY diverse.

For example, I'm into all types of jazz, from the classics of Coltrane, Davis, Armstrong, and Parker to the relatively new sounds of Manhattan Transfer. I love American classical (Bernstein and Copland especially), and even old school rap (before it became too commercialized) like Lost Boyz, Rakim, Jurassic5, and NWA.

Go easy on me if this has already been discussed.

I taste ranges from one end of the spectrum to the other, without any rhyme or reason.

    Rock/Jazz/(some)Country/Metal/etc etc....

    In no particular order.
Jimmy Buffett, Dave Mathews Band, VH, BASIA,
FleetwoodMac, SoundGarden, Mother Love Bone, SADE, Vannesa Daou, Allman Brothers,
(great Jazz Sax -Maceo Parker), Judist Preist, Sting, etc etc....

The list goes on, if someone was to look at my CD cases they would have no idea what I was into. Music is such a mood thing!

Fishbone. Which is diverse in itsself of course. Mos Def, Q-Tip, Sisqo, Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello, Steely Dan, Ben Folds Five... not really classical stuff, but I like a pretty diverse range of pop/rock music I suppose. I can feel this topic being pulled into the vortex of the off-topic forums already so DIF, when this lands in your hands. Hey dude!

Sitting in front of my PC at home, I'm looking at the stack of cds... let's see, there's some technical jazz/rock stuff, rangin' from Return to Forever spacin'thru' Dixie Dregs to arrive to Vertu (Mahavishnu Orchestra is a must, obviously)... Next there's the pile of guitar masters that can do everything (coffee included) w/their axe, Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Steve Stevens, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, so there's some jazz, hard'n'heavy, neoclassic, country, new age in there... Goin' thru the 80s brit invasion (well, this is how I call them even if they're from Ireland or Wales), U2, Big Country, The Alarm, but I suppose they're pretty most simple rock... oh yeah, funky, I was forgetting some good ole Level 42, late Stanley Clarke, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Living Colour... I went thru the prog/rock invasion, ELP+Yes+Kansas+Rush+Marillion+DreamTheater+IQ, some songwriters (Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, Dan Fogelberg, Joni Mitchell, Aimee Mann I have it too TDR ), some country rock (Eagles, CSN&Y, Flying Burrito Bros), some southern rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet...), some standard jazz (Coltrane, Charlie Parker), some standard pop (Toto, Journey, Huey Lewis, Blondie, ecc.....)... missing something???
What about some classic VH (better live in front of me....)

    welcome aboard, dan!
yeah, i have some pretty diverse taste, too.
i like to be open minded and look for things to appreciate in all types of music.

other than my main passions - VH, U2, The Beatles, SRV, Floyd, Zep, I have a penchant for '80s cheese synth pop from England. I also like underground dance and house music, too. ain't nothin' wrong with a little rhythm now and again...

btw - gonna move this to Fans Meeting Forum (music).

I love a lot of type of music. But I really got into Jimmy Buffett when I learned the steel pan.

So anything that is steel pan related.

p.s. Check out my mp3 of me playing "316" on the steel pan.

I don't incorperate this music into my songs
and yes it is very diverse kind of music but
it rocks none the less. That would be
    christian music ...

My musical collection ranges from Beethoven to Black Flag, with just about anything you could imagine in between. If music has something to say, I'll listen to it at least once.
