I just heard a rumor that Dennis may be the new singer for Queen. I'm not a huge fan of either, but I think it's a perfect match. Dennis was always the theatrical one in Styx anyway and his vocal style is similar to Freddie's. The keyboard skills also come into play. Anyone else heard this rumor?

No, but I don't think it's a good idea. If Brian, Roger and John want to continue to make music together that's great, just don't mar the legacy of Queen by calling it Queen. As for Dennis De Young, I always much preferred Tommy Shaw's voice to his in Styx.

Hasn't the bassist from Queen already retired from any version of Queen without Freddie?

I read that John Deacon refused to have any part of the new version of We Will Rock You that they did with Robbie Williams. John was quoted as saying that Robbie is no Freddie, and he wanted nothing to do with it. And then John didn't show up at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, so I wonder if that was related.

I say god bless John for putting his foot down earlier, and I hope he does the same again. Queen died with Freddie, and they've already pimped the name out enough since his death. Time to show enough respect to pull the plug.

Yeah, that would be like Led Zeppelin going on without John Bonham or The Who playing without Keith Moon. They've got to show those guys some respect.

You guys don't understand though, these guys have been musicians all their life. They need to play and write - and more importantly, they need people to listen when they do.

I don't want to speak for everybody in this thread, but I think I'd be correct in saying that most are saying what I'm saying - I have no problem with them continuing to make music and continuing to make music together - just don't call it Queen!

I know what you're saying but what billy007 said was right on, if they continue to record they should change their name.

But every record label or concert promoter will say " I can sell Queen but nobody will care otherwise. So it comes down to, play for no one in our basement, or play to thousands on tour.

And like I said before, most importantly, they NEED to play for people. Just like you need oxygen to breathe. Almost.

Nobody is saying that Brian May, or Eddie Van Halen, or Jimmy Page or whomever should stop creating and playing music. What all of the above should do is call their band something else. At least(apart from a couple one off gigs with Jason Bonham)Page took the hint.

And for the record, "Queen" recording with a boy band singer like Robbie Williams is even more embarrasing than the Aeroshit stunt at the Stupid Bowl. And Dennis De Young or George Michael wouldn't be any better.

Maybe they could call themselves Quyx.

    Puh-LEEZE!

Doesn't matter--when the lights hit the stage for their first live gig, DeYoung will most assuredly self-combust in front of thousands of people, seeing that he has that rare "allergic to light" condition or whatever.

Queen without Freddy? That's like VH without Dave. Or Sammy. Or Gary. Or (insert name here).
