Today's topic...The great Satan...MTV...

For you younger guys and gals, did you know that MTV would actually devote time to showing an artist's TOURING SCHEDULE after playing their video?

MTV actually had artists come in and talk about the new album...

When you turned MTV on back in the day, you'd actually hear MUSIC playing...

On a given day, back then you could turn on MTV and see videos by DOZENS of different artists...Not the same two or three...

No Spring Break specials...no game shows...no "reality" t.v....and then, the death knell sounded with the creation of the VMA's...When a medium starts creating new ways to celebrate ITSELF, you might as well jump off that train cause it is gonna derail...

I'm just glad to see the word knell used in a sentence.

Totally agree 100%. Kids today don't know what MTV used to be. That was Music TV. Not non Music TV.

MTV has earned a unique status in this world: it is both symptom AND disease. And it feeds itself from both ends.

Wow, I just wanted to ask you how MTV works in North America, because here in Italy it is abso-f.....g-lutely horrible.
You always see the same bands, same crap music, boy-bands and so on...
You can complain about MTV America, but at least, maybe you have more chances to see rock music somewhere else.
The last rock band I saw on italian tv were the Deep Purple playing Smoke on the water during the "Pavarotti & Friends" !!!!

In all honesty, I think you have it better than we do here. I would rather watch Pavarotti than the crap they spew here anyday, and I absolutely HATE opera.

Really, Abe?
I didn't know that in the States it was that terrible.
I always thought that USA was the country of hard rock, at least the one I prefer (VH, Def Leppard, Extreme...) and hard rock was given some importance, television-wise.

Ok, but let me tell you that the last time I saw Van Halen on italian tv was back in 1995 (!), when they came here and played in Milano in a small place to promote Balance.

Maybe we really have to wait for better times...

As for opera, I HATE IT TOO!!!!!!

Ciao
