It's hard to believe he died almost 11 years ago...I'm listening to his last gig at Alpine right now...sad to think he's gonna be gone a few hours after this gig is over...

Definately Sacto, I can't believe it has been that long as well. I remember where I was when I heard the news of his death. I was at the beach and I just remember being stunned and thinking, man that guy was great, and I hardly ever listened to SRV back then. I got his three disc one dvd set for Christmas and I have been listening to that quite a bit lately. My favorites off of those discs are the songs from the MTV Unplugged show, I am just blown away every time I hear them. I wish whoever has the rights to that show would release the whole show. Like what they did with Clapton's MTV show. I'm sure Stevie's show would get the same kind of recognition as Clapton's.

Is this a trick question? Am I on candid camera?

I miss him bad man. The guy was a medium for the blues man. There has never been a player that just flowed like that in a continuous stream of blue. Incredible player and person.

To answer your question, "Very much so." I can't begin to type out what my feelings are on him not being with us. The day I heard he died, I can tell you what I was doing, what I ate etc. That night VH 1 had a tribute to him, and I sat in my chicken shit college appartment just crying like a baby. Didn't mean to get all girly up in here, but I always think about that day and what have ya when someone talks about Stevie dying. God we miss ya Stevie. Out.

track 5...I was in college, too...my roommate and I sat there stunned in front of the stereo...

It seems such a petty way to die...kick all your addictions and die in a copter crash...

I miss that guy and I never even saw him live...much less met him in person...

funny, I remember where I was too. I was in my room trying to jam to anything that came on the radio. I was waiting for the next song to play and the news came in.

Pdog, email me man. There might just be somthing we can do about that unplugged

You got that right man. Man I was just in shock. It's like it was yesterday. What I still remember most was my Dad leaving me a message on my machine telling me what happened. Anyway, it was a sad day. Out.

I'll always kick myself for not going to see him when I had a chance for 4th row seats in Champaign IL. I just wasn't into him at the time.

One thing I thought was really disgusting was the fact that Cobain's suicide was looked at as far more tragic--WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT! SRV's loss is far worse!

I feel the same way about his voice. Great voice for blues. Leave my little girl alone, The sky is crying, Texas Flood, my personal favorite Tin Pan Alley, and whenever I see a thread like this, I cant help but to hear him in my head singing Life By the Drop. The kind of song that just "strikes" me with the memory of SRV. I get an image of his strat, the brown one with SRV on it, sitting on a shelf somewhere in a museum or a collectors display, and wonder just what else could have come out of that thing, and the incredible amount of purity within his realm that already had. I hope its in the Hall of fame or given to his brother or something.

gettin all misty eyed here, next topic...

You got that right, NE169. SRV was a man who was tragically killed. Cobain was a whiney bitch who killed himself.

    Never the twain shall meet.

I can't believe it's almost 11 years. Sacto, I hadn't thought of the time that's passed until you brought it up. Imagine how many more great albums he would have made.

The man was such a talent. Not only could he smoke on the guitar (and give praise to his heroes as easily as he played notes), but he also had a great voice which never gets enough mention, IMO.

Right after he had gotten his life in order it was taken away from him.

"Life by the Drop" is such a great tune. You can tell that Stevie is pouring all of his soul into that song. Another great song by Stevie is Riviera Paradise. If you want to take a vacation from your troubles, fix yourself a cocktail and let Stevie melt your troubles away with the soothing sounds of this tune.

I stumbled on this accidentally, and glad I'm did. CHECK YOUR LOCAL PBS listings! You might be able to catch Stevie's 1989 performance on "Austin City Limits", followed a week later by Double Trouble performing cuts off their newest album with special guests. Check the ACL website for more info:
    http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/progr...minfo2000.html

The SRV show was supposed to air on 2/17, but that's dependent on your local station. Lucky for me, the PBS station here in Hawaii is a month behind, so I'll be able catch it! In fact, the Eric Johnson show airs this Sunday! Good luck!!!
