I don't know what it is, but it just cracks me up. I suppose Ernest Hemmingway's description of Orson Welles' voice sums it up best. "He sounds like he has a cock down his throat." I mean he sounds a little like Creed's frontman. I laugh my ass off when I see their video for "Eyes Wide Open" because he sounds and looks so ridiculous. The lower jaw protruding and his voice sounding not unlike when the doctor sticks the wooden prod under your tongue and asks you to say "ahhh." Does anybody else find this singing style kind of unusual?

I'll tell you what Dave Matthews voice does for me. When I hear him on the radio, there is no mistaking that it is anyone but Dave Matthews. And that is a good thing. There are only a few artists that there is no mistaken for on the radio. Truly original:

    VOICES

    Stevie Nicks
    Barry White
    James Brown
    Bob Dylan
    Rod Stewart
    Roy Orbison
    The Bee Gees
    John Fogerty
    Robert Plant
    Steven Tyler
    Eddie Vedder
    Lou Reed
    Steve Perry
    David Lee Roth
    Sammy Hagar
    Paul McCartney
    Bono
    Stevie Wonder
    Elton John
    Billy Joel
    Dave Matthews

AS FOR THE NOT SO ORIGINALS:

    Gavin Rossdale, Scott Stapp=Eddie Vedder
    Tom Petty = Bob Dylan
    Kim Carnes = Rod Stewart
    David Coverdale = Robert Plant
    Ace of Base = Abba
    N Sync = Backstreet Boys

Good post, Georgie, though I'd add one notable to the list of original voices:

Ozzy Osbourne - nobody sounds like Ozzy, and Ozzy sounds like no other!

Also, just my opinion, but Gavin Rossdale reminds me more of Kurt Cobain than Eddie Vedder; that razor gargling singing style makes me think of songs like "All Apologies", "Heart Shaped Box", etc...

Any way you look at it, he ain't original...

BTW, when Dave Matthews comes on my radio, I can't get to the dial fast enough to change the station!

I think they are a great band, but I just don't like them; does that make sense?

I can listen to them one song at a time. His voice gets real annoying to me. I like listening to the music itself and Carter. He's an amazing drummer.
