I heard Zakk Wylde is in this month's issue of Guitar World and rips pretty hard on Dave Grohl. Anyone know if this is true or have read the article?

I found a portion of it at Creed's BB:

Nor is Zakk remotley shy about expressing his distaste for some of the songs on Down To Earth or many of the songwriters who contibuted material. He is particularly pissed off at Dave Grohl, the former Nirvana drummer, who now plays guitar with his group, Foo Figters. "If I ever run into Dave Grohl, I'm gonna kick his fuckin' ass," Zakk fumes. "Because I think he sucks, and he wrote this cheese-dick song for Ozzy that I have to fucking play on, And I'll never forgive him for that. Foo Fighters is a fucking candy-ass girl band, but you got that motherfucker submitting songs, and those douche bags from the Offspring submitting songs too. I mean, none of these guys could play a Randy Rhodes solo if they tried. Dave Grohl? Fuck Dave Grohl! Let him get up there and play 'Mr. Crowley'; he can't fuckin' do it! And it's like you're getting this guy to write songs for Ozzy? Just because he played for fucking Shitvana?"

LOL! That's awesome!!!! I like Zakk a lot more after reading that!

The songs that Dave Grohl and Offspring wrote for Ozzy must suck ass. Both bands are in a league below Ozzy.

Hell yeah! I love Zakk even more for that comment. he calls it like he sees it. He's right. Dave Grohl sucks along with Dorkvana.

Not to piss too many Zakk fans off but that has to be about the dumbest thing I've read coming from a musician.

Like it or hate it, Dave and Foo write some great tunes. He's the nicest guy in the world, and since when is music a competative thing?

Is Zakk pissed because Ozzy rather have Zakk play Dave's songs over Zakks songs? It's pretty shitty to read that kind of stuff IMHO. Zakks a great player, and Dave's a great songwriter. The funny thing is Dave been doing it longer then Zakk.

I'm not quite sure on that one. Zakk played on Ozzy's "No Rest For The Wicked" which was released in 1989. The first Nirvana album was also released in 1989 but Grohl wasn't part of the band at that stage.

Zakk's first solo effort "Pride And Glory" was released in 1994 whereas the first Foo Fighters album was released in 1995.

I am a fan of both artists but I think Zakk never holds back on his thoughts of other bands. I'm suprised that Ozzy needed outside writers with the riff-meister Zakk in his band. Maybe the record company prefers candy-assed to heavy-assed.

I read the interview and thought it was pretty pathetic. Sounds like a dumb, drunk redneck to me. I lost a lot of respect for him after reading the interview. Maybe this is why he'll never be known as anything but Ozzy's guitar player. Grohl is multi-talented and is in high demand these days as both a session player as well as a collaborator. Sounds like Zakk is carrying around a lot of sour grapes. Maybe he should just make wine with it and stay drunk and stupid.

I think Zakk is right, I can't stand seeing these 2 chord fools onstage playing pop songs. That ain't rock and roll. Even if Zakk is a drunk redneck he's 10 levels above Grohl as a guitar player and writes better songs in my opinion so he has a right to talk.

I'm gonna haf to chime in on the side of Zakk Wylde, even though personal taste is the bottom line of this discussion. In the end it's just a matter of who you like and identify with.

For me, I really appreciate Zakk's convictions when it comes to speaking his mind. I also once heard him rip the shit outta Emenem. The funny thing is, no matter how rude and uncouth Zakk can be, I find myself agreeing with his points.

Finally, Zakk is NOT just Ozzy's guitarist. Although that is quite a distinction in itself, Black Lable Society is perhaps the heaviest, baddest, scariest band currently on earth. Not to mention Zakk's Book of Shadows album is one of the most emotional, deep, and thought provoking albums I've every heard. Those songs cut right through you. He writes all his own stuff, and for me it feeds my fix.

I say green light go Zakk.

Zakk is cool, I thought his comments were funny. That said, I like Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters. Of course he can't play like Randy Rhoads, shit neither can Zakk. Now Nirvana on the other hand is a shit band.

Sounds like sour grapes to me too.
Obviously Zakk hasn't got the balls to get pissed at Ozzy for using Dave, so he goes after someone else who doesn't pay him a salary.
Ozzy made Zakk known. Otherwise he'd still be playing biker bars and pretending he's some sort of tough guy.

I like Ozzy, but honestly Ozzy and Zakk put together have the mental capacity as a dog with rabies.
