RUSH ALBUM DATE ANNOUNCED, WITH JAPAN GETTING 6 WEEK HEAD START: Some updated info on Rush taken from www.exitstageleft.com:
New Rush Album Out In May In U.S.
The new Rush album has been pencilled in for a May 14 release from Atlantic/Anthem Records in the U.S. The still-untitled project is the trio's first studio album since Test For Echo, which came out in September 1996. The band is planning to tour behind the album, its first live dates since the Test For Echo tour ended on July 4, 1997, in Ottawa. The group went on hiatus after that tour when Peart lost his daughter in a car crash and his wife to cancer. Peart has since remarried.
Other territories will reportedly see the album first, with Japan lined up for March 27 and Germany on May 10.
Last fall, Lee posted a message on his website (www.geddylee.net) calling the recording sessions an "experiment...an environment that allows us to keep some of the more spontaneous moments that occur during writing and blend them with a more rehearsed and typical style of production. It took a while for us to get to the point where we felt what we were producing was fresh enough and of the quality that we demand of ourselves."
".....and Harry Potter and all of his wizard-friends went to Hell for practicing Witchcraft. The End." -Ned Flander's version of reading "Harry Potter" to Rod and Todd.

Why would they release it so far in advance in one place?

Six weeks is a long time now that the world is so small due to the internet. I would think they'll lose a lot of sales from people outside of Japan downloading it, not wanting to either wait that long or pay to import it. Bad move in my opinion.

They do it in Japan to stop the Japanese importing stuff from here because cds are much more expensive over there. I don't see why internet downloading is a problem - no one is obliged to buy an album first day. You can wait 6 weeks and download it anyway even if it's released the same day everywhere.

It doesn't make a bit of difference, or have anything to do with Japan exporting the CD over to the U.S..

Even when it is released in Japan 6 weeks prior to the U.S., there will be retailers in magazines such as "Goldmine" and Discovery" that will order it and ship it to you. Granted, the price will probably be around $30-$35, depending on the Yen-Dollar rate, but for hardcore Rush fans, or anyone else that's been eagerly awaiting a new Rush release, the price won't stop them from getting what they want ahead of everyone else.

You know 79th here is looking forward to a new Rush release.

I am hoping to see Neil Peart and the boys live.

Rush is one of the few bands that I actually like, that I have never seen in concert. And, I really dont know why ?

I've seen Rush in concert and they kick ass! Glad to hear they are coming back!

Let's see now:

September 1996 to May 2002. That's 5 years and 7 months between Rush albums.

I hope VH doesn't equal that timetable. They are about a month away from 4 years with no release.

Sources close to the band have revealed that RUSH's forthcoming, as-yet-untitled studio album will feature 13 songs, three of which exceed seven minutes in length. Only nine songs have been mixed and mastered at an undisclosed studio in Toronto with producer Paul Northfield. Geddy Lee's voice is said to be in classic form and drummer Neil Peart is filling the TOOL influenced comeback with plenty of double-kicks. The record has taken 14 months to write and record and it appears that there is an 85% chance that Rush will tour the world in support of the release.

Didn't they say that Sammy's new project had a "Tool-esque" sound as well? What is this "Tool" that everyone wants to sound like them?
