Well, after seeing "Rock Star" a few times, I actually found myself downloading the songs by the fictional band...

Even worse, I like them...

What I found interesting though, was that even though I knew that the band as shown in the movie (Zakk Wylde,Jeff Pilson, etc.) recorded the songs, I didn't realize that not only were the vocals NOT done by Mark Wahlberg, but....... yep...Jeff Scott Soto.

I never really heard him, seeing as how I've never gotten within 10 ft. of a Yngwie Malmsteen recording, but I have to admit the guys not too bad - maybe he actually could do some decent work with VH if the rumors were true.

Hell yes!!!

I love those songs, in all their cheesy glory.

Great guitar tone, killer drumming, and probably some of the best rock singing ever done.

Actually, the beginning (the low/soft vocals) part of "We Die Young" is actually Mark Wahlberg until the high parts come in. (I found out by listening to the director's commentary on the DVD>.)

I liked that movie. I liked Anniston's ass in a thong, too.

I might have to score that DVD.

How can you be an 80's rock fan and NOT like that flick?

Here's the breakdown that I can remember:

Jeff Scott Soto does "Stand Up" and the other songs with that bluesy vocal from the "original" Steel Dragon singer.

Mike Matijeck from Steel Heart does the high stuff you hear on "We Die Young" and others that's supposed to be Mark Wahlberg, the scab singer.

I've got the movie on video and liked the stuff from Steel Dragon. I think Soto and Matijeck sound very good. I've downloaded a couple of tracks and will eventually burn them for a cd.
If VH ever wanted to go the route of a 4th vocalist I hope these two guys would get consideration.

I like the songs from Steel Dragon. There is nothing cheesy about them. Zakk Wylde and Jeff Pilson are great musicians. Sammy Hagar wrote the lyrics to Stand Up as well.

The movie was cool too.
