Ever hear of the term "jump the shark"? There's a website at www.jumptheshark.com dedicated to showing when television shows jump the shark (i.e., hit their peak and goes downhill from there. It's named for the episode of "Happy Days" when Fonzie jumped the shark on his motorcycle on a season-ending cliffhanger.) When did any particular bands jump the shark for you? I might get flamed for this, but VanHalen jumped the shark for me when they recorded "1984". Judas Priest jumped the shark when they recorded "Turbo".

I think Metallica was the Black Album

most of the new bands out right now Jump the Shark as soon as I start liking them. A band puts a few albums out, I like 'em a lot....anxiously await their next album and it sucks.
Gozer the Traveller will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii the Traveller came as a very large and moving Torb. Then of course in the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him, that of a Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you.

OK...now I KNOW you're my long lost brother! LOL

My buddy told me about this site about 1 month ago and I've been laughing hysterically at the memories of some of these ridiculous shows and their obvious downward spirals.

We need to start a thread about it over in Non.

As far as bands go, I'd have to say some of the biggest "JTS" are the KISS "Revenge" lineup (great sounding band but too many versions of the band by that point), Journey in the late 80's, Def Lep's "Slang", AC/DC "Flick of the Switch" on 'til now, when Winger was the scapegoat of Beavis & Butthead and finally, when Debbie Gibson became "Deborah" Gibson.

Yeah, I even went so far as to take my wife (then my girlfriend) to see Debbie Gibson and Kevin Paige in concert in Memphis back in like 1989 or so. Ugh...talk about pre-teen pubescence.

Although, DG was kind of a hottie!

Iron Maiden-when Adrian left. Jumped back when he returned

Kiss-after the Alive II album

Metallica-after And Justice For All

Pink Floyd-when Roger Waters left

Van Halen-obvious

Def Leppard-after Pyromania

Judas Priest-after Defenders of the Faith

Anthrax-when Joe Belladonna left

Rush-after Signals

AC/DC-death of Bon Scott. Back in Black is great but it doesn't compare to the Scott era IMO.

Van Halen - when David Lee Roth left
David Lee Roth - sometime after A Little Ain't Enough
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut
Aerosmith - sharing a stage with NSYNC at the Super Bowl
Wings/Paul McCartney - when Jimmy McCullough and Joe English left (really!)
Guns 'N Fuckin' Roses - When Izzy left
Bryan Adams - when he started sounding like Def Leppard (Waking Up The Neighbours)
Def Leppard - when they tried to make a second Hysteria (Adrenalized)
Elton John - when he started being serious and stopped wearing really goofy outfits
Phil Collins - sometime after But Seriously...
Genesis - when they started sounding like a Phil Collins solo album (We Can't Dance)
KISS - when Ace left was the start up the ramp and a year later when the makeup came off was when the jump was made!

I gotta strongly disagree here. They were still on their "upward climb" with III Sides to Every Story (IMO the best Extreme album), then jumped the shark big time with Waiting For the Punchline.
