I totally dig Semisonic, but I haven't picked up their new album "All About Chemistry" yet. Any opinions?

I haven't heard the new tune. I love those guys. Great melodies. Great textures. Great "pop tunes".

I love the last song on their last album. "....she's gone to the movies.....and I don't think she's coming back...." It's something like that. I love it when the strings come in on that. It's a pretty stripped down tune (voice and guitar, sounds like together live in a studio) then these strings come in. Good shit. Whomever produced that album should be working with the VH brothers.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I have never heard of them

But....you might check out Coldplay "Parachutes", Lead Synth

Yellow is a great song....
and I they have a lot of songs with the piano in it....they sound like Pink Floyd
with a Pearl Jam flavour and Ray Davies
voice......very strange combo, but it works.

Angel, I'll check Coldplay out.

Well, I still haven't heard the new Semisonic, but I just got tickets for their April 20 show at the Vic Theatre in northern Chicago! This rocks because it's just a few minutes away from me. Now I just have to find someone to come with me.

All I've heard is the song Chemistry. Pretty basic, bare bones song that doesn't vary as much.

As far as alt. pop goes it's a decent tune - not as good as Singing in My Sleep or Secret Smile, IMHO.

Ha ha lmaorotf! A4U? This is a trip to say the least. You mentioned Pearl Jam with Ray Davies in the same sentence? Lol, kick fucking ass angel! You rock IMHO from now on!

Self to Note: Hey Synthy, what's their current single on the radio? Lol, it's been on 107.7TheEnd top 10 before I swear. I can't remember it though?

I don't listen to the radio, so don't know what their single is. Probably "Chemistry."

I haven't heard it either yet, but I am looking forward to it.

Hopefully they'll play Summerfest again in Milwaukee this summer.

I changed my mind about all that.....the more I listen to Coldplay, it's:

Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam sound with Ray Davies or
Eric Clapton as the singer.

I haven't really like a band this much since.....1978 they are very

Well, since I'm not a musician....I have to break it down to describing other bands.

The music sounds like Pink Floyd but the way the lyrics are presented in the song remind me of Pearl Jam....the song Yellow, and a few others remind me of Ray Davies (fun, upbeat)being burned out on the radio these days, however *We Never Change* reminds me of unplugged Eric Clapton in the beginning...
What I really like about them, is that all their songs are unique/different.

They've been selling out concerts elsewhere, I'm curious to see what they do in the U.S.
IMHO, I think they'll be big, eventually

Their website, if you look at it, reminds me of Pink Floyd, too!! www.coldplay.com

Well A4U, it was just funny cause two of those 3 of names you listed are influences in my reprotior as a musician. Good call to say the least ...

Yeah Coldplay does have that hook in yellow I was just concerned if the rest of that album could hold up to such a person as I am. I need those rock n' roll songs and not this British/England band coming in here to the mellenium thinking they were a Depeche Mode or The Smiths kind of band.

It's cool though I dig that song and if you like them you should check out this other band from England called the Doves and their song called Catch the Sun. It has those similiar hooks and yes the chorus is unbeleivably catchy IMHO. That why I like it and hope you do too.

Hey check out my song for G4, it's a taste of what has influenced me over the years.

STN: These two bands IMHO are just so "melodic" that it remindes me of the quake that Oasis left behind from England.
