Well, another 30 years have passed, and it's finally time for the next Boston album. For those who care, it will be titled "Corporate America" and will be released on October 22. This information comes directly from the official Boston website.

I've heard a few songs from the new disc, and it seems to have that classic Boston sound. The REAL good news, as I see it, however, is that Brad Delp has returned to perform lead vocals on the album.

I hope I'm not the only Boston fan on these boards. I can't really help it, y'know, having spent my entire major-league career playing for the Red Sox...

There was a brief thread on here about this album a couple of weeks ago and the comments weren't positive. I certainly enjoy the first 3 Boston albums, but they lost me a bit with Walk On. I'd have higher hopes for the new one if I heard it was all Brad Delp singing, but the people that commented seem to indicate he wasn't the singer on all of the songs...

Yeah, it's not all Brad. In fact, of the three songs I've heard, only one-a ballad-was with Delp, and it was the worst of the three. One is a pretty cool dark song that I can't remember the name. The other is Corporate America, which has a lot of techno synth crap, but the guitar is pretty heavy, and the vocals-though not Delp-are pretty good. I'm looking forward to it. I think it will be at least decent.

NEWS - Boston's New Song Popular--Just Not Under The Band's Name
    09/18/2002

(9/18/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- One of the most popular songs on MP3.com lately is the track "Corporate America" by a band called Downer's Revenge. The song has been Number Two on the site's Progressive Rock Chart for two weeks, and while you've likely never heard of Downer's Revenge, you do know who it is--it's Boston. "Corporate America" is the title track to the group's fifth album, due October 29 from Artemis Records.

Boston leader Tom Scholz gave LAUNCH the lowdown on the track. "I had this song, 'Corporate America,' and I wanted to get it to colleges. And experts told me that there was no way Boston was gonna get on Internet file sharing or on the modern, progressive rock charts. So I decided that what we would do is, we'd release this song to the Internet, got it onto MP3.com under the name 'Downer's Revenge.' Of course, it was a shock to me that it went from zero to Number Two on the Progressive Rock Chart in, like, four days--but a pleasant shock."

"Corporate America" was co-written by Scholz and new Boston guitarist Anthony Cosmo, the 29-year-old son of Boston singer Fran Cosmo.

It's like I always say: Lincoln, Jefferson, and Washington get these huge monuments dedicated to them--not to mention their faces on Mt. Rushmore--and all I get is a lousy tunnel!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I too have done some further reading on the subject of the new Boston album (and re-listened to the sample songs on the Boston website) and unfortunately, have come to the stark realization that Brad will not be singing lead on all the tunes. Oh, well, I'll probably check it out anyway, gullible as I am.

Yawn! Boston, I'm sorry to say, is about as relevant as Van Halen
