I've been making mix CD's (and years ago Mix tapes) for as long as I've been into music.

Of late, I've been digging through my 22 Rolling Stones CD's I own and thinking about making a Stones Mix CD.

Problem is, I love The Stones so much that a 1 disc Mix CD, turned into a 3 disc Set.

Here are the songs I am gonna include across the 3 CD's (I still gotta play with the order on each disc and all)

What do you think? (I know--I'm being a dork here!)

STONES fans, what do ya think?
and as a general topic, anyone else do stuff like this??

48 Total 3 CDR's 16 per Disc

1. Start Me Up
2. Brown Sugar
3. Happy
4. Gimme Shelter

17. Rocks Off
18. Sympathy For The Devil

I do the same thing, and im sure allot of people on this board do also. I have the same problem you do when it comes to The Who or Black Sabbath, it's to hard limiting my choices to just one CD, I always end up wanting to listen to tunes that I didn't put on the CD in the first place.

Van Halen isn't really a problem, I've been listening to them all my life really, so I never make any mix's of them, if I want to listen to VH I just pop in an actual CD and just run straight through it, just like John Mellincamp (spell) said, "even there bad song's are good".

I really like making mix's of songs from bands that I really only have a passing interest in, like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Jethro Tull, etc... They all have at least a few amazing tunes but I would never listen to an actual complete album of any of them.

I used to make those on cassette all the time, but I don't have a CD burner so I haven't made any in a while. My favorites were Van Halen A-Z (every song in alphabetical order), SRV A-Z, and a party mix where every other song was Beatles, Stones, VH or SRV and the rest of the songs were random artists.

I used to make 'em quite a bit with tapes, but haven't done so much with CDs yet - until I get a program where I can match the levels better I probably won't. I did make my brother an 8 CD set of just about every U2 song that's been on a single but not on an album last year.

BrokenCombs - you might almost be better off buying 40 Licks and then putting the songs you want that aren't on there on your D.I.Y. CD!

I don't usually make a lot of mix CD's but before going to the Sam and Dave concert this summer I made a CD for each of them with their setlists from the tour and played them on the drive there. They're pretty good CD's.

I made best of compilations for Queen, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, and Deep Purple a long time ago.

Not too many, but I made my own Maiden B-sides mix--now I find out about the box set which will have it

I also made one of all of my daughter's VH favorites, and AC/DC's TNT!

Good lord the Stones have to many song's!!!

That's exactly why I don't let myself get into them to much, way to much time to make up.

The Who is easy, they started at about the same time, but they didnt put out nearly as much product.

And Black Sabbath is even easier, as far as im concerned they only realeased 6 albums worth of music, that other garbage can pack sand. Except Neon Night's, that's a bad ass tune.

EXACTLY! Believe you me, I was trying my best to narrow down my list, but I was finding myself saying: "Jeez, well this tune has GOTTA be in here as well...Oh wait, I can't forgot this chestnut! Oh crap, what about this great rocker!...ETC ETC.

Maybe I love The Stones too much, but it was hard to narrow it down. Course, part of it is not just my obsession with their music as much as it simply is a reflection of their ENORMOUS amount of great stuff across FOUR decades!!!!!

I realize I'm not the first person to say this in this thread, but until you see a list like that in front of you you forget how many great songs the Stones have. Hard to argue with that boxset you've got lined up BC, but if it were me I'd have to have found room for

Midnight Rambler
Factory Girl
Sway
Sweet Black Angel
All Down the Line
Just My Imagination
Hand of Fate
Winter
Rock and a Hard Place

I don't make mixes much anymore because as I've gotten older I've become more obsessed with albums as total packages. I figure (though this may only be the case occasionally) the artist sequenced the album in a certain way deliberately, and that's how I like to listen to it. That's MY geek thing.
