This week's "TV Guide" has an article on "The 50 DVDs You Must Have" and has selections from just about every genre except concert/music videos. So what are some of the best ones you've seen, what ones have the best extras, easter eggs, et. al.
I have all the U2 ones - "Elevation 2001" allows you to watch parts of the show from three different perspectives, but I'm still waiting for them to put "ZOO-TV Live From Sydney" on DVD - just think there's so much they can (and hopefully would) include with that.
I have the first four Beatle movies and await "Let It Be", which Paul says is coming (including a "true" soundtrack on CD), but there's not much in the way of extras on them - some interesting early ads on "Help!" and you can watch "Yellow Submarine" with just the music, but not a whole lot more that sticks out.
"The Song Remains The Same" - nothing extra there, and we all know about Van Halen's "Video Hits" (I assume).
So what ones do you guys (and gals) like?

I've got the U2 elevation disc - it's excellent. Their best of 1990-2000 DVD looks good too, with commentrys from the clip directors etc. The Zoo Tv one would be appreciated though, good call.

The Talking Heads 'Stop Making Sense' is also an excellent DVD, with bonus tracks, commentries by the director and band, and a bizzare clip where David Byrne interviews himself. Good stuff.

The VH ones were a massive dissapointment. no extra anything.

The Who 'royal albert hall' is a good disc, so is the 'isle of wight' disc, although the age of the film stock is pretty evident. Good performance though.

All 3 Springsteen ones are really good. I also like Fleetwood Mac's The Dance...

And although the rumour of a zeppelin reunion seems bogus (go figure), it sounds like Page is working on a DVD of live stuff that will hopefully be out soon.

    DVD only? okay..

Sammy's birthday bash DVD should be a given. Wether you like him or not, that show is great. Good extras too.

Joe Satriani: Live in San Francisco is pretty cool too. Has multiple camera angles on a few songs, some other extras, and his playing is great as always.

I'd recommend G3, but I think the song selection is weak. Vai's performance is the only one that has any sort of energy to it.

And, if you came of age in the 80's, "Journey 2001" and "Styx: Return to Paradise Theater" are fun shows to watch.

None come to mind (the only music one I have is a video-collection of Alice in Chains), but I was wondering if anybody had Pearl Jam's "Touring Band 2000" and could tell me if it's worth having.

I highly recommend the Beatles' Hard Days Night. It's been digitally transfered and the image is crystal clear. The music is realy full and sounds like it's been remixed too.

Also U2's Rattle and Hum. I actually bought it for like $9.99 at Walmart! Pretty good deal.

I was listening to the radio this morning and caught an interview with Paul McCartney. He was plugging a dvd that is being released today. Paul covers 20 or so Beatles' songs on it...plus a few George Harrison songs too.....

    I have these:
Sheryl Crow: Rocking the Globe Live - No extras, but a pretty good performance; ***
Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same - Few extras and some really bad edits; **
Sting: Brand New Day Tour - A good performance, but the audio mix is terrible (sounds like it's switching between stereo and mono); **
Sting: All This Time - Many extras and a great performance (even though, or maybe because, it was filmed 9/11/01); Highly recommended; *****
U2: Elevation Tour - Tons of extras and a great performance; Highly recommended; *****
SRV: Live at El Mocambo - A great early SRV&DT performance; Highly recommended; ****
SRV: Live in Austin - Two great Austin City Limits performances (one early on and one shortly before he died); My only complaint is there are more songs they could have included (Rude Mood, Voodoo Chile, etc.); ****

Add another vote for Dokken's "Live From The Sun"...It is one of the coolest looking live performances I have seen. The effects rock and the sound crunches. This was the short period when Reb Beach joined the band and he is simply amazing!

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."
