I'm taking my twelve year old son (almost twelve, actually) to his first concert next Saturday night to see Def Leppard. Anybody have any current reviews? I wished his first could've been VH, but we won't go down that road at this time. I hope this is good for 38 fuckin' 50 a ticket!

    BBB,

We had Def Leppard here in Missouri at the State Fair about 3-4 weeks ago and they did an incredible job! The only concern I had was they didn't have Joe's vocals up very loud. That's not good when you can't hear the lead singer as well. Other than that, they put on a great show and it should be a cool one for your 12 year old.

I will be seeing them at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater. Capacity 8,000 reserved seats under cover and 12,000 lawn seats. Seen VH here in AUG '98 - awesome show.

I saw them here a few weeks back. The show starts out kinds slow ya know the basic "Are u ready to rock?" "(INSERT CITY NAME HERE) You are the greatest! We love ya!" Type stuff. They do all there old hits than there is an intermission. Now things get interesting. The band comes back on stage now dressed in Black Robes as a 45 foot burning pentagram lights up the stage behind them. They start Chanting "Lucifer, Satan, We are the chosen ones" over and over till the whole arena is now joining them. Concert goers now start ripping of their clothes as they dance to the macabre chant. Slowly a alter type table rises up from the stage floor. A 17 year old nude virgin is tied down to the alter. The chanting gets louder and louder as the singer stands above the girl holding a serpentine shaped blade which he has pointed down at her stomach. The chanting stops Then the singer plunges..........

Hey wait....uh....ummm....OH You said DEF Leppard......lol, oh silly me I thought you said Death's Shepperds..... Oh my I must look pretty stupid right about now.....NEVER MIND Lata Snake

I saw them earlier this year in Tokyo. They rocked. They also closed with my favorite Def Lep tune, "Let It Go". I nearly shit a dozen midgets when they played that. Their set list is very well-put together. Go see them.

As an afterthought, a few of the tunes they perform from "Euphoria" translate better live than they do on disc.

    BigBadBrian,

Whassuuppp Homeboy.... Probably going to see them also Saturday night, Old Lady wants to see them (about the only rock group she likes besides Bon Jovi).

Was also there for VH in '98... Good show, but was NOTHING compared to the '84 tour....

BigBadBrian, did you go to the show dude ??

The weather was shitty all day, but I decided to take my wife anyway (keep out of the doghouse, you guys know what I'm talking about). They closed the lawn section, and they let the people who previously bought lawn seats go down to the reserved section. So there really were only about seven thousand people there (never seen so few people at that place).

As for the actual show, it was better than I expected. They played all of their hits and only a couple of ballads. They were recording last night for a possiblility of putting one of the songs on their website for their fans to download. The acoustics were good as usual (only show I've ever seen there with bad acoustics was Motley Crue last month). The only disappointing part was they didn't play any songs from the first two albums, which I consider their best work.

They did play "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" off of their second album, HIGH AND DRY. They also did "Let it Go". Well over half of the songs they did were from PYROMANIA and HYSTERIA, however. That was okay by me.
I suspect the shitty weather and the high ticket prices kept the crowd attendance fairly low. It sure wasn't the show itself.
I thought this was one of the best concerts I've ever been to, and I've been to alot.
This includes MOST, not all, of the VH shows I've seen. Sorry VHer's but that's the truth. If you have ever liked DEF LEPPARD, go see them - you will not be disappointed.

Damn, you're right BBB, there were those two songs from the pre-Pyromania days..... Did you originally have lawn seats ?? That turned out to be a good deal for those folks....

Got to disagree with ya on the comparisons to the VH concerts though... When I saw VH in San Diego in '84, the energy at that concert was something that hasn't even been close being duplicated by other bands...

Let's just hope that energy is revived in a few months.....

Va Beach VH Fan, notice I said MOST, but not all, in regards to the VH Shows this DefLep show was better than. The ones it was not better than were the ones I seen with DLR. (Seen seven of those, including US Fest '83)
However, this show the other night definitely blew away VH on the 3 Tour when I seen them in '98. I think we're pretty much in agreement. If these people on this board could see the original VH perform like they did in the early '80's, this Sammy/Dave/Gary debate would be a moot point. BTW, I never buy lawn tickets. Why sit in grass when you can have a nice comfortable seat? The extra money is worth it.

I saw them with my wife on July 23 at the Jones Beach Amphitheatre in New York. They were absolutely terrific! I can highly recommend their show and sound. This theatre holds 16,000 but there were about 8-10,000 there. The faithful!

Some of the set list that night (Not in order)?

    Bringing on the Heartbreak
    Rock of Ages
    Photograph
    Hysteria
    Love Bites
    Foolin
    Two Steps Behind
    Promises
    Armeggedon it

    Step inside, walk this way
You and me babe, hey hey

Love is like a bomb, baby, c'mon get it on
Livin' like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin' like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man
    Your man

    Razzle 'n' a dazzle 'n' a flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night
    Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
    Little miss-a-innocent sugar me, yeah

Take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up

Pour some sugar on me, ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me, c'mon fire me up
Pour your sugar on me, oh, I can't get enough
I'm hot, sticky sweet from my head to my feet yeah

    Listen
Red light, yellow light, green-a-light go
Crazy little woman in a one man show
Mirror queen, mannequin, rhythm of love
    Sweet dream, saccharine, loosen up
    I loosen up

You gotta squeeze a little, squeeze a little, tease a little more
Easy operator come-a-knockin' on my door
    Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
Little miss innocent sugar me, yeah
    Give a little more

Take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up

Pour some sugar on me, ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me, c'mon fire me up
Pour your sugar on me, oh, I can't get enough
I'm hot, sticky sweet from my head to my feet yeah

You got the peaches, I got the cream
    Sweet to taste saccharine
'Cos I'm hot, so hot, sticky sweet
From my head, my head to my feet
    To my feet
Do you take sugar, one lump or two?

Take a bottle, take a bottle
Shake it up, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up
    Break it up

Pour some sugar on me, ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me, c'mon fire me up
Pour your sugar on me, oh, I can't get enough
Pour some sugar on me, oh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me, get it, come get it
Pour your sugar on me, ooh
Pour some sugar on me, yeah
    Sugar me
