Springsteen is awesome. The 3 cd box set Live 75-85 is amazing, a must have in my opinion. That version of Badlands is great, hell the whole thing is stunning, all the songs are much better than the originals. The last couple minutes of Born in the USA on there is a real arm hair raiser.

Studio wise, Born to Run is all great songs, start to finish. Jungleland is one of the best songs of all time. Meeting Across the River too.

Some great stuff on The River, especially the first disc.

Blah blah blah, yes I dig Springsteen.

Glenn...The 75-85 is incredible...My favorite is disc one...On 'Growin' Up when he tells his folks in the crowd that "tonight you're just gonna have to settle for rock and roll..." Damn!!!

I just had to throw on some Springsteen from reading your post. Right now I'm listening to the In Concert MTV Plugged disc; awesome version of Light of Day on there.

Growin' Up on that box set is stunning, good call on that. The lyrics on that song are really cool to start with, and he just plays the crowd like a master. "I strolled all alone through the fallout zone, I came out with my soul untouched". That whole box is just full of great songs. The acoustic songs that he does from Nebraska are great songs, and even better live.

    Great topic.

I think Springsteen is awesome. I bought his greatest hits a while ago and now that you mention him, maybe I should to listen to it more often.

    Shit, I'm a Jersey-bred boy, dudes.

We took that "Boss" shit literally.

The real gem on the box set to me was "Because The Night" - can't believe he let Patti Smith record that one when he didn't. I had some friends in a band here in town that used to do that song years ago.

You guys wanna talk "Brooce", count me in.

YES!! On the 75-85 when he tells the story before The River about his dad getting his haircut and then at the end his dad is glad he wasn't drafted...I played that for my mom when it came out...after that she looks at me and says,"See, parents sometimes know what they are talking about." I didn't get that then, but with my own boy, I do now...I can't think of a better compliment for Bruce than to say I have been lucky enough to grow into his music...

    That intro to the River is very evocative. I'm paraphrasing a bit I'm sure;

    Bruce-"they didn't take me"
    Dad-"That's good"

    Very powerful moment indeed.

    Well brunettes are fine man
    And blondes are fun
But when it comes to getting a dirty job done

Iíll take a red headed woman
    A red headed woman
It takes a red headed woman
To get a dirty job done

    Well listen up stud
    Your lifeís been wasted
Til youíve got down on your knees and tasted

    A red headed woman
    A red headed woman
It takes a red headed woman
To get a dirty job done

    Tight skirt, strawberry hair
Tell me what youíve got, baby, waiting under there
Big green eyes that look like, son
They can see every cheap thing that you ever done

Well I donít know how many girls youíve dated, man
But you ainít lived til youíve had your tires rotated

    By a red headed woman
    A red headed woman
It takes a red headed woman
To get a dirty job done

Bruuuuuuce! I love the Boss. Saw him in concert the end of '99. I've only really known his mainstream stuff, so his '99 concert was kind of a shocker. I only really knew Born to Run and Thunder Road, plus the acoustic (weird) version of Born in the USA. Regardless of not knowing any other lyrics, the concert was AMAZING. One of the best I've ever been to. They put EVERYTHING they had into it, soo much emotion, and they really do love eachother as people, and you could see that by the way they interacted. Patti has an amazing voice as well, and the song that she and Bruce did gave me chills.

Anyone else have that box set that came out about a year and a half ago, with all the unreleased recordings? I thought it was great, especially the first CD. Also 'Sad Eyes' from the 4th cd was incredible, I'm surprised that was never released.

I think I'm gonna pick up his new DVD soon: has ALL of his videos, plus some live performances, on 2 discs!
