New Releases, Feb. 19: Joey Ramone

FEB 19, 10:40 A.M. ET

Joey Ramone
"Don't Worry About Me" (Sanctuary)

Surfacing this week is the highly anticipated solo debut from Ramones' frontman Joey Ramone, who died of lymphoma in April 2001. Recorded before his death and mixed posthumously by his brother Mickey Leigh and co-producer Daniel Rey, the album features cameos from longtime associates like the Damned's Captain Sensible, the Dictators' Andy Shernoff, and former bandmate Marky Ramone.

As was Ramone's style, the album's subject matter is diverse and alternately poignant and humorous; an ode to CNBC's "Money Honey" reporter, Maria Bartiromo, lurks among covers of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" and Iggy Pop's "1969."

Sound clips of several tracks are available at Ramone's official website.

I got the CD yesterday. I like it alot. But I love The Ramones. Sounds like a Ramones album. I think if you like the Ramones you would enjoy this CD. Marky Ramone is on a few tracks

Think I'm gonna pick that one up next week, along with Billy Idol's VH1 storytellers.

Joey is still missed.

The buzz I've been hearing, and reading, about this disc has been nothing less than stellar.

It's a shame Joey never had the chance to stick around and hear it.
