Eddie Van Halen sits at home, and won't hire a singer, depriving his fans of new music. fans are outraged. they come to the Links to complain.

Layne Staley sits at home, shooting heroin for how long, eventually OD'ing, also depriving his fans of new music. fans mourn. where's the outrage? it's misdirected at MTV. they're at Petition Online complaining...

fuck MTV. fuck Petition Online, too. wanna make a difference? go buy a homeless guy a sandwich, instead of whining on the Internet about shit you can't control.

well no shit they arent playing them...

if you consider how fucking soft the market is now, you got 22 year olds crying about how daddy beat them thanks to people like Staind.

You should save your energy and influence the audience...

    Huh?

I don't understand. This is just about how MTV is paying so much more attention to the death of Left Eye, constantly showing little mourning commercials, and tribute shows 2 days after her death, while Layne has got only a mention on their website in over a week. Since AIC were a big part of MTV in the early-mid 90's with great videos (I Stay Away, No Excuses) and one of the best unplugged shows, they should show more respect.

They ARE a music station, so you would expect them out of anyone to show some sort of tribute. Regardless of the way Layne died, it was still a loss to the music world. I think the coverage/tributes of Left Eye are more than deserving, but to do this after nothing for Layne isn't cool.

I don't think the intention is to 'change the world' in anyways, just to give him the respect he deserved. He obviously didn't get much love in life, the least we could do is give it to him in death.

MTV's demographic is more in the TLC vein now, instead of the AIC vein. no surprise who they're gonna fawn over.

someone put it this way on another board last week-if Staley died 5 years ago, he'd be a martyr, just like Cobain. now he's just a washed-up grunge singer who OD'd. five years out of the public eye does that to you. like DLR says, here today, gone later today. AIC means shit to MTV any more. their present audience doesn't care about Staley, or AIC...

Yup. It'd be stupid for them to spend any length of time on it. He didn't give a shit about the people who watch MTV now, and they didn't give a shit about him. What's the point of a tribute like that? Stupid.

Don't forget that when Kurt Cobain killed himself, MTV devoted an entire weekend of programming to his pathetic ass.

Jerry Garcia died around the same time, yet he was barely mentioned at all.

Sometimes, I wonder what the hell these programming exces are thinking.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

    -George Carlin 1937 - 2008
