QUEENSRŸCHE Reissues On The Way - Jan. 20, 2003

Two decades after QUEENSRŸCHE released their self-titled 12-inch debut EP, EMI Records is celebrating the band's career by reissuing the disc and the six critically acclaimed albums that followed: "The Warning", "Rage For Order", "Operation: Mindcrime", "Empire", "Promised Land" and "Hear In The Now Frontier". Each of the seven QUEENSRŸCHE records has been repackaged with bonus tracks, unreleased photos, memorabilia and liner notes by lead vocalist Geoff Tate and Paul Suter (who wrote the first demo review in Kerrang! magazine, which eventually was responsible for getting the band signed).

The first phase of this highly-anticipated promotion begins with the Apr. 8 re-release of "Queensr˙che", "The Warning", "Rage For Order" and "Operation: Mindcrime", followed by the May 6 re-launch of "Empire", "Promised Land" and "Hear In The Now Frontier". These albums — all of which have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the RIAA — cover the first 14 years of QUEENSRŸCHE's illustrious career.

Wow. The extra songs aren't much to speak of IMO. Maybe if there's a signifigant improvement on the sound quality of Operation:Mindcrime I'd buy it. The guitars on that always seemed a tad "buzzy" to me. Is anyone else planning on picking these up? I'm still going to get the new CD when it comes out despite my disappointment with the personal/musical issues within the band

That particular version of "The Mission (Live)" is a great live-version of it, I used to have the cassette-single of it and played the hell out of it. I had wished it had that version on the Operation: LIVEcrime when it came out. I'm undecided about buying any of them.

Awesome! I'll get Mindcrime for sure, since I don't already own it and I've been planning on getting it for a while.

Yes, they are all remastered! Get the '80 CDs for the greatest improvement on sound.

I'm in the fan club and will get all of these the day they come out. I can't wait!!!

Everyone should get the already out remastered Operation:LIVEcrime. It also has two bonus tracks.

"Operation: Mindcrime" is definitely one the all-time best albums in the history of rock. DeGarmo and Tate were at the top of their game when they wrote that album.

And, the amount of bonus tracks for each of these reissues is incredible. Usually, the general public is treated to 2, or *maybe* 3, bonus tracks when an artist's catalog has been given the reissue treatment.

I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

I'd say that the Wilton/Tate songwriting team was just as active on OMC as the DeGarmo/Tate combo. OMC was the last album that was the case though. I wonder whatever happened between those two?

I'd say Chris DeGarmo came across as the "principal" songwriter since most of his songs were "the hits". That's Ray Danniells-logic for you.

You're always here when I'm here FH

You could be right about that. After a glance at the Empire booklet Wilton cowrote 5 of the 12 songs. On PL it was mostly DeGarmo's show which turned out a great album and on the album after that it was mostly DeGarmo's show again which yeilded an album that sounded like a bunch of B-Sides. Who knows?

1997's "Hear In The Now Frontier" was DeGarmo's brainchild all the way. Definitely not a heavy metal album as he got more into the alterna/grunge sound that many of his buddies around the Seattle area are known for. Certainly not a "grunge" album by any means, but a very stripped down sound especially compared to the predecessor "Promised Land." Michael Wilton in recent years has said that HITNF has a "two-dimensional" sound to it, whereas Queensryche was always known as a three-dimensional-type band. The strife in the band, while not publicized much, and the collapse of EMI Records caused HITNF to fail and the tour was stopped in the middle. By reading between the lines it seems like DeGarmo does not get along with drummer Scott Rockenfield. Thus, all this caused DeGarmo to split and do his Spys4Darwin stuff and flight instructor work in the Puget Sound area.
Queensryche is actively working on a new album right now, another concept record. The interesting thing is that Geoff Tate and Michael Wilton don't seem to be on the same page musically. Tate is really branching out (see his solo album) while Wilton wants to go back to a classic Ryche metal sound.

I wouldn't call it the worst album ever. If given the choice I'd rather listen to that all the way through then HITNF but just barely.
