Back when Rush's Vapor Trails CD was released, there was much discussion of the sound quality (or lack there of). Some thought it sounded fine, but most thought it sounded like sh*t - good songs, bad audio. I stumbled upon this article yesterday that explains exactly why it sounds like sh*t. It's somewhat technical (and long), but it's a fairly easy read and very interesting, IMO. Check it out if you're interested.

Very interesting article. I agree with him that this is easily my favortie collection of Rush songs however.

You know......the thing about Vapor trails is that it sounds fantastic in the Porsche. However, when I play in my system at that house you cant listen to it. But on my walkman, or discman rather...it once again sounds terrific. Very dissapointing. I will also agree that Vapor Trails is by far the best collection of Rush songs since Moving Pictures. Wanna sell more copies? Re-mix it or whatever the hell you have to do, I would by another copy if it as long as my Home system can handle it.

Without a doubt, VT is the best collection of Rush songs since Moving Pictures. It was quite a kick in the ass to finally have some new Rush after 5 years, loving the tunes and then cranking up the stereo and having it sound like a muddy mess!

P1, thanks man, that was a good read. This guy made some great point's concerning the CD, im leaning towards his explanation over all the other's.

It's to bad, it should be one of my favorite CD's, but the sound just turns me off.

It was strange listening to the new song's live, they didn't sound the same, in a good way.
