    Another baseless rumor from vh@yahoogroups:

    > "Why, just the other day, a friend of a friend was in a
    > record store. The owner of the store has a friend of
    > a friend that's married to this guy who runs a big
    > record store in LA. The story is, last week Gary
    > walked into the LA record store and was talking to the
    > owner, talking about the music business and stuff.
    > The owner asked Gary what he was going to do now that
    > he's out of Van Halen, and Gary said "Don't be so sure
    > that I'm out of Van Halen." Then he said that the
    > store should clear space for the "new Van Halen album
    > that's coming out by Christmas."

If it was true, I'd like to see it happen. Don't count on it, though. Gary hasn't seen or spoken to Ed prior to Ed and Val's breakup, which he made perfectly clear a few weeks ago at NAMM. TOJ is still working on a tour in support of "Exit Elvis", a follow-up record, and Gary has even mentioned about working on a possible solo disc.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

    -George Carlin 1937 - 2008

I doubt very much that Gary would be stupid enough to walk down that road again!

Hey, I'm that guy. I'M THAT GUY!
    Small world or what!
I remember because I had just finished working on an album with Elvis before the tragic "bathroom accident" that we don't speak of anymore.
That particular bathroom was sold on ebay, and now resides at the home of a famous collector in Brussels.

Anyway, I remember being in that store when Gary walked in, but his eyes were all red and he kept mumbling something about "showing them all".
He kept demanding ketchup with his fries, but since it was a record store he finally got frustrated and left.
But he certainly did say he was still with VH and would have a recording out by Christmas.
Of course since he also said he would be comandeering Santa's rocket sleigh this year to make sure everyone had a copy under the tree, I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

I wish Ed and Co. would have given Gary one more album. The band took a huge risk bringing him into the fold in the first place and should have stuck with him despite the disappointment of VH3.
With an album and tour under there belts the results on the follow up to 3 would have been much better.

Realistically, I think you could be right.
Ed was taking the band in a new direction at that point and when it didn't work I think he saw Gary as one of the main problems.
The music he was writing was different than what he'd written in the past, but for the years before gary I believe he did a lot of writing with Sammy and might have been expecting to continue with Gary. When gary came in the songs became longer and more complex. Apparently not what VH fans wanted.
Gary didn't seem to have any input and just wanted to go along so as not to rock the boat.
That might have helped to make him a scapegoat when sales were poor.
When I saw them live, besides the fact that I thought Ed's sound was awful, it seems gary was more in the background letting Ed have the spotlight most of the time.
They probably should have let him come out more as himself but the original stuff they wrote for 3 didn't seem to allow go in that direction. The next album should have been more simple and raw, letting gary use his voice more as a rocker, but at this point I don't think we'll ever know if it would have changed things.
It seems once Ed decided to wipe the slate clean, Gary got wiped along with it.
It's too bad because it's hard to say what might have happened with a bit more persaverance.
It would have kept the guys writing and playing at the very least.

Gary was talking about the song he's singing on Sam's live album.
Mike's also playing on it, so altogether, it's kind of "like" if he was still in VH (almost).
He said that as a joke, because there effectively is an album where he's singing a VH song (when it's love) with some VH guys coming out in a few months.
Now the good news would be that a new VH album (with Sam) is due by X-mas...

By the way, if you believe that, I got some dot.com stock to sell ya...

The only thing I could see would be a new VH album with various singers. Otherwise, I don't see Gary going back into the fire again.
