Went to the Tampa show and was pleasantly surprised by the crowd and the love for Van Halen...Had the pleasure of sitting next to a stranger originally from Wisc...Had a great time...Loved to see the variety of ages rocking out to some great old fashion rock and roll !!!

I got my tickets to this show for Christmas as a gift from my sister. I was blown away and I have always wanted to see Van Halen. Alex Van Halen was a huge influence on my drumming as a kid. I dont know if its because I am a musician and know what a good PA should sound like or if I am just over critical but they had the worst sound out of ANY band I have ever seen. I was really surprised at that too. I thought Van Halen would have a clean powerful sound but it was far from what I expected. A huge part of a good concert IMO is the sound. The sound was so bad I couldnt even understand most of the lyrics(but knowing the songs I knew what was being sung). DLR was trying so hard to be heard over all the noise I though a emblism was going to pop in his head. There was just so much unwanted noise it was unbelievable. It sounded to me like they were trying to get too much out of a PA that was clearly underpowered. Thats why everyones ears were ringing after the show-all the noise from a distorted PA. My sister mentioned that Billy Joel played at the SPTF a while back and the show sounded great-why can Billy Joel sound good and VH sound like garbage???? IMO this is why- the PA that alot of bands use are rented and IMO in an effort to save money they rented a lower priced PA in an effort to make more for themselves. Its also the reason Bob Marleys grandson was the opening act for VH-plain and simple-he isnt even getting paid!-more money for VH. When I go to a rock concert I want to see a rock band as a opening act not a raggae act. I wasnt even aware who the opening act was until the day of the show-not like it mattered-I wanted to see my boys VH!!!!! Anyways the show would have been much more memorable (like previously mentioned by another forum member) had the sound been somewhat decent.

Other than that I will add this-* EVH hands looked really bad-I think he has arthritis and it showed in his playing. He played the rythm parts fine but almost every lead was a far cry from the original version-pretty much a simpler rendition. EVH did have a few good leads at times but it looked like his fingers were really swollen. I still love him alot and hold him very high as one of the greatest to ever pick up a guitar.
* AVH was a machine and didnt miss a beat from my observation. I think he played well.
*WVH seemed to play decent but I really couldnt hear very much bass in the mix because of the excess noise and muddyness. I know he is just a kid but damn-show a little energy come on!!!! He seemed very out of place-but hey-they wouldnt have him playing bass to save money would they???? HMMMMMM
*DLR -I believe he wouldnt of had to "yell" the lyrics if the PA wasnt so bad. He did well with the audience but had a weird smile at times looking like the joker. I still think he is awsome and definately the only singer VH ever had IMO.
Overall- I am glad I can finally say "I saw VH" but I woulnt pay to go again unless the PA(sound system) issue had been addressed and a rock band opened for them-I dont care who-just a Rock band.
