View Full Version : Your thoughts???

It was suggested to me via e-mail that I should break up the Songs and Albums forums into two different forums.

Also it was suggested that I break up the monster that is the Main Discussion into another forum. But I'm not sure of a forum to create that would break up the huge Main forum efficiently.

Comments on either of these situations. Would like your feedback. Thanks.

I can't see the point of having a Songs Forum and a separate Albums Forum. I think they co-exist pretty well together.

How are you thinking of separating the Main Discussion Forum? I'm interested in what your theory is for this.http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

I don't have a theory that's why I'm asking. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

I don't know, I agree with Glenn about the S&A forum, unless you created a VH S&A forum and a non-VH S&A forum, that may be good if this board keeps getting bigger and bigger.

You could also do a Sam S&A forum and a DLR S&A forum, but it may cause flame wars, and if/when DLR gets anounced, the Sam board would become a gost town.

As far as the main dicussion goes, I can't see a logical place to break it up, if people think it's too big tell em to set their default viewing thing to the last 5 days or whatever.

I just think that things will look even crazier if you end up with too many different forums. As I had mentioned to you months ago Brett, I do think that when the band gets revved up finally, there should be a Tour Forum. It could not only deal with the newest tour, but anything to do with previous VH/Dave/Sam tours.

I tend to not think as much as possible!

No Brett just go delete threads that nobody's been in for a week or two!

I have suggested this before - although I dunno if Brett ever saw it http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif and think it would be a good idea - have a 'VH Speculation' forum - posts of a speculative nature ie.. 'What if Dave wanted to keep his solo career.. what if sammy never left... Could Gary start a wrestling career'.. the kinda grey area between opinions and rumors... Gives an extra pidgeon hole for the moderators in main discussion to file posts into if needed. Maybe rather than create a new forum - expand on an existing one - say 'opinions and speculation' or 'rumors and speculation'... beef up a quieter forum a bit so to speak.

I'm a big fan of being able to get stuff 'outta' main as much as possible-not because I dont wanna deal with it, but to prolong the thread - which in turn benefits all who post to that thread.. if stuff gets left in main for more than 24 hours without a response (less on busy days).. it slips off the first page, often not to be ever seen again. By having more forums, topics can remain in view a lot longer, and get better chances of responses.

I like things the way they are now. The only thing I would like to suggest is maybe some guide lines on posting to new members before there registration is complete, so we dont have people posting things in the wrong forums.
*Rumors in the main forum section.
*Introductions in the main forum.
*Opinions in the main forum.
***We dont need 5 VH on the Simpsons topics, see if that thread is allready posted.

I think you get my drift. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/wink.gif

I like OLO's suggestion about the forum rules, I'm gonna try to reword the registration page so that maybe stuff will be posted in the right forum.

The Opinions Forum is a mess, people posting all kinds of useless crap in there that should go in the Meeting Place forum, and like Goo said there is a grey area between a lot of the forums. Hell I'm not even sure what should go in the main one anymore. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif Multiple topics on the same subject are also annoying, but that's never going to stop unfortunately. There really aren't any "dead" forums, but I am considering Goo's idea of changing the "Opinions" to "Opinions and Speculation" as that might be better.

Off VH stuff really needs to be in the Meeting Place forum. Maybe I should re-title that to make it more obvious, as I don't know if people really read the descriptions or not.

At some point I will have to prune threads when I get closer to my web space allotment, but that's not even an issue yet, I don't want to remove old threads because sometimes people like to search, etc.

A Tour Forum will happen once we have a tour to talk about. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

I always thought there were to many forums out here. Theoretically, everything in the main discussion could probably go somewhere else. but it is a catch all for most users.

tough call, but I would not start splitting boards like the song/album board.

May confuse some as to where to put a post, some ideas could fall under both headings. If a definition of the two seperate rooms was available, then I think it would be a good idea.

Maybe move the "hop to" section that is at the bottom of the page to the top of the page? Kind of would make it easier after you have posted to go to another section. Your site is very cool, so I'm not fucking bitchin' at all. Kind of like tying your shoe, or having someone else do it. Not that much of a change. Later guys. Out.

Guys thanks for all the comments, you got more, keep 'em coming. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

As for moving the "Hop To" box, it is a very scary process, one that I am afraid to undertake actually.

Brett, in my opinion the "hop to" box is in just the right place. When you post something, you are automatically taken to the bottom of the page to see the post you just made, so it's perfect. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

i'll give anything a shot.
i think people will always post to the wrong forums, anyway, so the moderators have to keep on top of things.

more forums could be cool for users who have specific interests, but they make the site too large to fully enjoy for the casual reader.

we can try whatever you guys want.
if-a you no like, we could always change-a the damn thing back to da way it was! http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/biggrin.gif

I definitley don't think we should split up any forums according to eras. Bad blood for sure there.

I'd agree that splitting Songs and Albumst not be the best idea. They go together too well, and there'd be a lot of duplication between the two. Breaking them down by era wouldn't seem so hot either. I think VH having had 3 eras to contrast gives us more to talk about.

Maybe a "News" section, when things start to be announced? That'd take some of the heat off of the Main, but might spill over in the Rumor Mill.

How about expanding the Meeting Place a bit? Maybe into music and non-music?

I'm not for expanding this place further either, but splitting the Meeting Place into music and non-music up is an idea....Comments?

I like this place alot I have come here nearly everyday since I registered. One thing i can say is do not split up anything according to the eras of VH to me it is all VH. I can say i rarely go to rumors or meeting place because most of the time the rumors get posted on the main page. The places I spend time are the guitar room and the main page I also like the 101 page too. But none of my comments really help you out i am afraid. I like the way the place is set up, A rules page would benefit new members i think maybe a agreement to terms page before the registration, just a thought.
