I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but since we have some new posters,
anyone wanna fill us in on your first setup. I saved most of the summer for a 25. Kay guitar. Didn't have an amp, so I rigged up the arm on my parents stereo record player,(yes we used vinyl in those days)with alligator clips on 1 side of my guitar chord, and ran it through their stereo when they weren't home. We held our jams at my place when they weren't around, cause I couldn't move my "amp". Unfortunetly I blew the shit out of the stereo, and then moved up to a really shitty Bogen 20 watt P.A. head that I ran through a crappy Radio Shack speaker, talk about natural distortion...lol. Worked my way up from there as I got better, and learned how to play. Over the years I've had lots of guitars, but don't think I had as much fun as I did with that first setup. I used to play until my fingers would bleed. Then I'd wipe down the strings, and wait till the next day and there was nobody home. Of course it didn't help that the action was about 1/4 inch above the fretboard.

My first set-up was a 15watt Fender amp with an Ibanez tube screamer and Ibanez distortion pedal played with an Ibanez RG series guitar.(the first rg series back in the early 80's). I moved slowely up through the yrs as you have mentioned tribb. By the way, when are going to be playing here in Philly???

My first setup was a Strat copy guitar, going through an all tube Akai reel to reel tape machine. I'd take some old KMart brand headphones and plug them in, then crank the tape deck wide ass open. It actually didn't sound that bad!! Then someone gave me a Stradolin amp, and I used the tape deck as a fuzzbox. My first real amp was a Peavey LA 400. That fucker was LOUD, and it only had a 12" Black Widow speaker, but it was 210 watts. I swear to God that it was loudest amp I have played, and I have a 5150 and a Marshall. If you hit the clean channel with a Strat....well you were going to get hurt. http://www.vhlinks.com/vhlforum/smilies/smile.gif

My first set up was a cheap black Cort (which is now signed by Dimebag Darrel) which I played through a small Crate club amp. No bells or whistles, just simple.

I started out on a Vantage bass but quikly got bored with that. My dad plays guitar, so I learned on a 69 Gibson SG, and an old Stat. Amp wise, it was a Roland JC-120, and a Twin. My dad got pissed at me because I got better then him real quick, and all sudden I found myself playing a Mann les paul copy, plugged into a fender Super Champ!

An Epiphone Les Paul through a 15-watt Fender Squire amp. I had a cheapo Boss distortion pedal as well. Still have the guitar in my closet for sentimental reasons,

Ok my first setup haha. It was an old 60's Fender Reverb Amp (twin) that I plugged an original '68 strat into. It was a "hamydown." given to me. The idiot had no idea of it's value. It was a nice shade of white. Probably the original Olympic white. It had it's share of nicks in it. I don't think I added any. But I played Surf tunes on that setup for a LONG time.

My setup was essentially a Harmony acoustic for many years. Once I saved enough paper route money for a Global Les Paul copy and Marlborough amp from a mail order catalog, it felt like I was flying on the low action of an electric. Been hooked ever since!!!
